Unhappy No Heat! Winter is coming :(

Hi,

I am going to be moving and working a contract in oklahoma city for a few months and will be spending most of the winter up there. I am coming from florida so not having heat down here is managable. But from what i hear its very cold in OKC. I will be leaving next week.

Problem is my 96 tl 2.5 wont blow heat. I have already tried changing thermostat, I drained and refilled coolant twice. I had a mechanic change the water pump and timing belt as well.
I also, had a leak from the heater control valve earlier which i replaced. No more leak, and both hoses going to the heater core get nice and hot. Also both radiator hoses get hot as well.
My temp gauge stays in the correct range as well.

The cooling system was also bleed to the best I could do.

Both cooling fans come on when they are supposed to as well.

The ac will blow ice cold with no problems.

When I turn my temp up I can instantly hear the blower motor change and it acts like it trying to heat the car. But still no hot heat.

I worried that it may be the heater core. and I do not have time to fix it before i head out.

I did buy one of those small portable 12 Volt car heaters. But it only puts out enough heat to defrost windshield or warm my hands

I did the self diagnose function on the climate control and I got two faults:

In Car Temperature Sensor

and

Air Mix Control Motor

I dont know if that would relate to the NO heat problem, but maybe someone has some ideas.

Please help, thanks.

Update:

Problem was just solved today. After seeing it said Air Mix Control Motor in the self-diagnosis, I pulled up the repair manual and got a diagram of the motor.
Its under the glovebox to the left. I pulled out the glovebox and looked for the motor. I found it and saw there was no connector coming out of the top of it.
I felt around and found the green connector completely disconnected!
I plugged it back in and the motor started moving and instantly got hot burning heat.

Just some info for you guys if you have problems with no heat at all.

I got really lucky that it wasnt a bad air mix bad motor, i know those things run about 100 bucks at the dealer.

I dont think the problem you are having has to do with the air mix motor. For me, I wouldnt have any heat at all either at idle or high speeds. But my ac would blow ice cold. Also, When I changed the temp dial to hot I couldnt hear any door vents moving.
Now that the motor is connected when i turn the heat on, i actually hear the door actuating followed by hot air.

You could do a check by removing glovebox (its only two screws near the hinges) and with the key on ACC mode try turning the temp dial, see if the motor moves. It should have some rods coming off of it that close and open certain vents.

Your problem sounds more like a thermostat or air in the coolant system.

Sounds like the blower motor if no air is coming from the vents except at hwy speed in fresh mode.
