Question Need to replace Radiator Fan in 96 acura tl

Can I use any universal radiator fan and mount kit or does it have to be a specific part based on my model?

Stay OEM

Just buy a new radiator and install it yourself. It isn't hard at all. It takes a little over an hour to do.

Dont replace the radiator! just replace the fan; plus our tls have like 7 different sensors and plugs on the radiator it was a pain on mine cause all of them were stuck!

ok well to settle this, I already bought a new radiator, haven't put it in yet.
But I found out that 1 of the fans in the car don't work, and I was told it was the Radiator fan.
So I was asking because when I bought the radiator I had to call like 10 different places and give them my specs to order the radiator, so basically

can I use a universal radiator fan or do I have to buy a SPECIFIC radiator fan based on the specs??

You can use a universal fan but I doubt that it will be plug and play.

^ buying OEM would be better i thing. i'm not sure about the 3.2, but for the 2.5 the radiator fans turn on automatically to cool down the engine. i dont know if a universal would support that feature

3.2 does it too. Stays on for something like 8 minutes after the car is off.

does anyone have an idea how much the fan would cost if I bought OEM radiator fan, and is there a site that I can use to know how much all the different parts cost in the 96 acura tl 3.2 because I need to get an Ignition Control Module, and I can't find it anywhere on the internet

Engine-off running is not controlled by fan but rather a coolant temp switch and a fan motor controller.

Any fan motor that will fit can be wired in place w/ two crimp splices. Pull old fan, remove motor from fan shroud, and go to auto parts store (autozone is where I found mine I think). I found an Accord fan motor that matched closely enough; correct shaft dimensions (check carefully), but slightly longer. You can probably find entire fan assy on ebay for a reasonable price also.

good luck

radiator fan can be bought universal

I had to replace my 1998 3.2 TL radiator fan motor about two years ago. I found a universal fan at AutoZone. I pulled the old plastic mounting frame off the radiator and had to drill out the mounting screws to remove the old fan motor. You should be ready to do that--you will need some 1/4"-20 or 10 mm (don't remember which) screws to mount your new motor onto the bracket. I think I had to butt splice the wires onto the new fan motor, but that was not difficult. I'm not very "handy", so just about anyone can do this if I can!!!! If I remember right, Acura wanted something like $200 for the bracket/fan/motor combo. I think I paid about $30 for just the fan motor. It took me several hours to do this job, but it was not that bad.

If you look thru the forum you can find posts about replacing the radiator fan. You can replace the fan with an aftermarket fan from Autozone. I did this on a 98 3.2 about 2 years ago. You will probably have to drill out the mounting bolts of the old fan to get it out of its cowling. I looked up the fan on Autozone's website & found what looked like the right part. Worked like a champ. And a boatload cheaper than going with Acura's entire cowling/fan combo.

hey like you guys said, the fan stays on for about 8 mins after our cars are turned off. Is it normal if the fans turn on every once in a while and not every time i shut my car off.I mean the car never over heats or any thing. It just worries me because on the 3.2's its a common thing for the fans to go on.

I just changed my left fan motor 2 months ago. I got this motor from Advance Auto for $60, its OEM. The computer showed two would fit but only the one brand Mitsuba fit. Two fans got different motors!!!
