hey everyone just got an 97 3.2tl great car everything works fine except for the rear tail lights, dash lights, etc. and after replacing 49 it just blew again, any ideas on where to start to look for a short or other issue?

Does it blow instantly? Check the rear harness for the driver side tail.

hey sorry in the title it should say fuse # 49
but yea it blows instantly, should i just check the rear harness for breaks or cuts ?

 

that happened to me three times then stopped after the third fuse i replaced... happend with a couple other fuses also then stopped...

 

A frequent cause for shorting is a failed dimmer control. You will need to access and unplug the dimmer control. If this fixes the problem, a new dimmer control is needed.

Otherwise you will need to do some tedious fault tracing w/ a Volt-Ohm Meter (VOM) on individual circuits.

finally got around to pulling the dimmer switch and still blowing #49 are there any other known trouble spots i should check on??

Try autozone or check ebay for an inexpensive emanual download. I checked the emanuals I have and could not find a wiring diagram.

Put your model info in your signature line so we don't have to go back to original thread to know what we are discussing.

In my 2.5TL manual fuse 49 is "not used" and is located in the ABS Fuse/Relay box? May be different for a 3.2TL, but unlikely. So are we discussing a fuse from main underhood fuse box?
