Driver side door locks from inside...well, halfway..

I stop the car, turn it off, open the door, press the lock button down - and the little knob on the handle rotates only halfway. What's the deal? I have to lock the door from outside.

PS - I did search

It's suppose to be a safety feature to prevent you from locking your keys inside.

Pull the door handle on the inside, then press down on the door lock switch. I'm guessing you've never owned a car with manual locks? Haha.

^ Or you can just lock it from the passenger side with the door lock switch. It only does it on the driver's side.

Thanks! It works of course - just a little wonky with one hand.

Yes, my last car had manual locks - but wow they were junk! The door handles were so junky the doors wouldn't open sometimes..

The first gen TL's never came with keyless entry, correct? Because all I got with the car was a single key.

I have two remotes, two main keys and a valet key. You're missing some keys man.

What do I do about it? I don't think I have keyless...or do I?

For another key, should I go to a dealer?

You can make key duplicates at any hardware store. If you want a new remote then look on ebay or a website that sells remotes. If you search this site you will find a discussion about our remotes where it is mentioned where you can get new remotes.

Right. So does the ebay item I mentioned in my last post work? I would just have to program it?

I've heard of there supposedly being a guy around my area that installs a keyless starter whole shebang system for $200. I'm so doing it once I find out who and where he is. :3

You can get a basic alarm/keyless entry system possibly cheaper than buying 2 OEM keyfobs. My friend bought a basic Prestige alarm/keyless entry system for only $65 in which I've install for him. Comes with everything you need to do the install, and 2 three buttons remote. Works like a charm!

So where do I get an OEM replacement? Why wouldn't the mentioned Ebay item work?

We don't know for sure if you have keyless entry on your car. Some cars came with them and some didn't. I believe that there were different systems installed for different years and models as well. Best way is to get aftermarket, way better than those stock alarm that will disarm itself everytime something is used to unlock the car (does not have to be a key) through the lock cylinder.

I'm just wondering if I can get a $30 OEM key fob replacement rather then installing a $200 or more system. It really just doesn't make sense for me to spend that kind of money on an aftermarket system.

You can try to go to the dealer, give them your vin# and ask them to look it up or you can buy a decent system for ~$60 and install it yourself.
