i know it's a lame question to ask, but....have you checked your brake fluid level? my light came on a couple of times and after topping off on the brake fluid, the light went away for good..
Longsta, I know you're going to ask how, so here goes:
Pop your hood.
Look at the area against the firewall, straight in front of your steering wheel.
There's a big black round bowl-looking thing, that's a brake booster.
Above it is a clear-ish tub with a grey cap and two wires coming out of it. That's part of your brake master cylinder, and that's where you check your fluid level. There are two lines there, try and get it closer to the upper one. Good luck.
~Cheers~

There may not be anything wrong. My 97 2.5TL will illuminate the red BRAKE light on cold mornings or randomly on first start of the day. I pulled the brake fluid reservoir reed switch that closes to cause this light to illuminate. Nothing obviously wrong. I reinstalled and it stayed off for a while, but returned.
You can confirm that the reservoir reed switch is the problem by unplugging the two electrical connectors to the switch. If light stays off, you know the reed switch is the problem. It's not critical and merely annoying. You could leave disconnected, but would not know if your fluid level dropped.
good luck
