brakes?

i just got a 96 2.5tl i was driven it for a while today and after a while braking started having trouble. if i was going up to a stop sign i would press the brakes and it would slow down but the brake pedal would keep going more in and my car wouldnt come to a complete stop. i just got this for my first car and don't know much about cars so if you can help i would appreciate it.

You need to bleed the brakes. If it happens again after awhile, you need to replace the brake master cylinder, which is pretty cheap. A new master cylinder will run you about $100 for the part itself.

let see- just got the car,,,,- do we really think all it needs is brake bleed?
not likely~ most people sell the car with something failing they dont want to fix

Do this test- if you pump the pedal twice in a row fast- does it increase the feel of pressure under your foot the 2nd time? NO? not air in system

Now with the car in drive, push the brakes down- does it hold the car stopped, does the pedal go weak under your foot and then you have no brakes? YES?
You need a Master Cylinder for the brakes- then you will need to bleed the brakes to remove the air from the lines that got in during parts install
You should be flushing the brake fluid every year anyway

Have a read thru the gen1 thread list and it will answer most questions, then if you need special help you cant find a thread on- start a new one.

Good luck- and welcome to the forum and the acura family

Keep an eye on it-
air in the lines will make weak pedal, but yours gets weaker as you hold the pedal- thats usually the master cylinder
And there is a reason air got in the system- did the tech have any guess how?
