Unhappy Alarm problem

The alarm goes off sporadically on my '96 3.2TL. If I lock the car, it almost always goes off, but even with the car unlocked, it seems to go off a couple of minutes after I exit the vehicle, but only occasionally (maybe 20% of the time).

Anyone else had this problem? I took it to the local Acura maintenance facility once, but they couldn't get the problem to occur, and therefore couldn't really isolate the problem.

Any experience with this would be appreciated.

Mike

Dying battery caused similar problems on my 94 Accord EX w/ factory alarm. Car cranked and ran fine, but finally we noticed the cranking performance was a little off. New battery fixed the alarm problem.

good luck

Try that first. Then I remember there was a TSB in regards to sporadic alarm activation. It's because of the trunk latch.

I've also noticed that some alarms seem overly sensitive to loud noise such as motorcycle exhaust or simply loud car exhaust. I have a 99 Subaru Forester that will go off particularly in a parking garage where even moderate exhaust noise is amplified. I happened to witness it go off when a motorcycle passed nearby in a parking lot and subsequent observations confirmed that noise was the problem.

I suspect the problem arises from the "shattered window" detection sensor which may be improperly adjusted. Manual says this sensor must be adjusted by Subaru shop.

Honda's systems are very simple. There wasn't even shock or window breakage sensors available. Not even for my '06 Accord unless you get a basic LX with accessory alarm (mine is an EX with leather). The factory security systems have latch sensors and that's it.
