No actually, it was quite easy. Took maybe an hour and a half or so.

That will get you to the point where you can remove the guage cluster.. just unplug the harneses, and remove the instrument cluster from the dash.

From there it is still rather easy, the cluster face comes apart in two stages; the clear cover, and the black guage surround; these pieces come off quite easily. Once the guages are exposed, just unscrew the tiny phillips screws holding the guage faces in place. Lay the new guage face directly over the existing ones; this takes a lil bit of maneuvering to get the new faces around the needles,(I must say, that was the most difficult part... I was afraid I was going to bust the needles), but it was easy enough. when your done, reassemble everything, and wire.... Presto! You will then have nice new guages.

 

Oh and P.S.....
I also removed the 2 bulds on the upper part of the guage cluster that shine down on the guages themselves, they are located on the back of cluster nearest the top, 1 over tach, and 1 over speedo.

Does the new cluster fit in with the rest of the dash?

Just from those pics it looks like the cluster may be too 'modern' of a look to fit in with the rest. Is there much of a conflict between the dark gree dash lights and the bright gauges?

If possible could you hit us up with a pic of the whole dash?

 

i think u should do the amber look for a jdm style. someone here did a amber look and looks real nice

my question is... hows the needle vision at night with out the bright ass light from god beaming on your gauges!! lol. i mean those gauges are awesome and im putting mine in. i just wanna make sure ill still see my needle tho

 

When you installed your guages were did you wire your power and ground wires to and were did you place the on/off switch or did you some how figure out how to keep them on at all times

 

i gave up on reverse glows seeing every set i buy (2 of them now) the friggin speedo gauge doesnt work (I HATE PROCARPARTS.COM) ima get some blue replacement leds from my boy bryan at tec-toyz.com soon as find out what sizes ill need. i wanna change the back of the gauges and the take out the top 2

 

sorry to bring up a dead thread, but did you ever find out what kind and size leds we should use? Also if I was going to pursue the reverse glow, what kind of 1/4 watt 470 ohm resistors should I use? 5% or 10%?

 

The guage cluster LEDs are 194s, and you need 5 of them.

What guages? If they're the reverse glow, then no. They glow on their own, so you can even remove the stock filament bulbs.

How are the LEDs working out for you Go90go?

 

They were working a treat. I had IPF bulbs from Japan, though. Anyhow, save your money and don't get the white faced guages. My buddy searched and searched and managed to fine a black-faced version and it was clean as hell. The white faces don't look good on our cars...

I originally removed them, but it made it a pain to see the needles so I put the stock ones back in. Before I put them in, though, I coloured them with a blue marker to dim the light output and they came out great!

Those will fit, but I recommend the inverted ones as those spread the light more evenly.

White bulbs or blue??? Thats the question!!!! I'm ordering some white ones now, yea... i'm a late night shopper, Andbody got pics of blue bulbs? GOgo I know you have blues in your cluster but I've never seen a good shot at them.

 

I'll try to find a pic. I can't take one now as my dash was torn apart. Not to mention I loaned my battery to my friend whose Optima Red-Top crapped out... POS Optima...

Anyone know what bulbs are in the back of the climate control? Theyre really small and i doubt anyone makes leds for it but Its worth asking. I have the 194's and I'm ordering the 37's for the shiftgate soon.

 

Shift-gate is 74, and I believe the HVAC control lights are as well. Not too sure, though.

See if it looks the same as the light behind the ashtray and in the shift-gate to see if they're the same. If they are, they're 74s. BTW, I found a pic in one of my phones of my gauges when my car was up. I'll try to post it soon.

Haha, I wish I were a cop. Maybe I wouldn't have so many tickets if I were one! If you look towards the bottom left in the second pic, you can see my trunk lighting. So blue that florescent things lit up as if under a black light.

wow, do you know what brand LEDs those are? I have mine installed and I left the overheads in, but they don't look nearly as brilliant as yours

 

Mine are IPF 6 chip ones. $60 a pair. Similar to these, but with 2 additional chips:




I don't mind showing that plate on since it isn't mine, haha, . My lights, my car, not my number.

Mine are done and in with the white inverted led's. I never knew that the top two were 37's they HVAC controls probaly are to so I'm gonna get 6 37 led's and see if I can do the HVAC, shift gate and maybe the top of the cluster. Light output looks nice in the daytime, I haven't seen them at night yet but I'll try n get pics later.

 

BTW I dropped the car off at the detail shop to get the pin stripe and emblem adhesive off!!
