Where are you filling up? Places like Cumberland Farms have shitty gas up here, stick with someplace like Shell, it is a bit more expensive, but better quality.

Cumberland Farms.. i remember those.. I grew up in NH and they had a nasty reputation. Out here we have Arco which might as well add water to the gas.. its so awful.

If it's been more than a month, you are probably really low with how far the temperature has dropped up here.

Gas Milage
I have an 1996 Acura 2.5TL and I have 206,000 miles on my car and I seem to be getting about 14 miles per the gallon.
I changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distubutor cap, rotor, timing belt, pully on timing belt, radiator fluid, all the belts, air filter, vacum hoses, radiator, radiator hoses, all the seals from where the oil leaks, thermastat, water pump, transmission fluid flush and new tires. I have had all of this done in the past two weeks and I can't seem to find out how to get better gas milage. Oh and I use 93 octane at Texaco and Exxon I never use cheap gas but the best I have gotten is 16 and the worse is 9 miles per the gallon I dont know what I need to do or what I need to get in order to get at least 18 miles per gallon if there is anyone who has anything that can help me please let me know!

Terrible mileage here too!!!
'96 3.2 TL here, 93000 miles. I've been trying desperately to figure out how to improve my pathetic mileage as well. I've done full tune-ups, i'm constantly checking air pressure in the tires, filling up with 94 octane. I can't get more than 215 miles on a tank. Any advice will be much appreciated please!!

It seems like none of you considered cleaning the fuel line and the injectors. It would be helpful to add a quality fuel line and injector cleaner fluid into an empty tank even if your injectors are not very dirty. Additionally, we all know that acceleration is one of the most wasteful times when the engine uses so much gas to increase torque and advance to a higher gear. So if you can remeber to accelerate steadily with the least acceptable speed possible, you might gain a mile or two. Drive fast (not too fast) that's o.k. but try not to accelerate too qiuckly. I am getting up to 300 mi with one premium gas only tank. And I think there should be way to improve this some more...

Hey guys i am new to the forum. I just got a 1996 Acura 3.2TL with 232,000 miles on it a couple months ago. I was getting around 17 mpg running 89 octane. I went to walmart and bought some Lucas Fuel Injector cleaner and put it in my tank the last time i filled up. Now i just got 19.5 mpg. I average about 275-300 miles on a tank. I would say try some fuel injector cleaner it got me 2 mpg more. If there is anything else anyone can think of to improve this even more let me know.

Sticky/sporty tires provide great grip and braking at the expense of rolling resistence..

Oh i am not 100% positive i will have to look tomorrow i think they have about 50-60% tread left so i am getting ready to buy new tires in the next couple of months anyway. Do you guys have any suggestions on what tires to go with for the Stock rims?

TL no more!
Wait...if it's clogged, wouldn't the check engine light come on with a code P0401 or something?? I remember I had that problem once. When I took it to the dealer for a CEL, they said it was a dirty EGR.

A couple of things urged me to try and increase my gas milaege. 1) Rising gas prices and 2) plans to plus size to, unfortunately, heavier 225/40/18 wheels/tires.
Surprisingly I now got the best mileage on this past tank since I got the car two years ago. To accomplish this I cleaned the EGR which was totally clogged with coked sludge, put in a new set of NGK copper plugs, replaced the fuel filter and the PCV valve. Prior to this I was getting about 18.2 mpg and about 260 mi. until the low fuel light went on. After the maintainance and despite the heavier wheels and stickier tires I got 21.4 mpg and 306 mi. until the light went on. I never even came close to 300 miles on a tank before. Oh, I use 87 octane gas with NEO Fuel Additive (good stuff). My drive to work is very consistant and consists of about 35% city and 65% freeway of which I stay between 70 and 80 mph. The drive also includes a pretty big hill which kicks the gear down for about a mile and a half. Also power is now better as it seems easy to maintain 75 mph up this hill, where before the car would have a harder time to keep going at 70 mph. While it is hard to isolate exactly what helped it seems that the most jacked-up thing was the clogged EGR. At any rate, I'm glad I can roll on my eighteens and get over 300 miles per tank.

Try some higher octane fuel for a few tanks and see how that does, a lot of people have found it to make a noticable difference, you could definately be doing better than that

A clogged EGR port is usually the #1 culprit on an older Honda engine that isnt performing as well as it used to.

Even that makes it hard to tell where it is though, but better than the ESM

I use the same stuff. the directions for how much to use are right on the bottle. you can get it at pretty much any autp parts store.
I use the recommended amount on my 98_2.5_TL, and i got 330 on my last tank, before fearing of running out of gas. haha. i get about 23 mpg now, as opposed to 19.5 ealier when i didn't use it.
I also cleared out all the gunk in my EGR valve. just buy two bottles of Carb Cleaner, and blast that shit on there. take a soft scraping device and get all the carbon off. makes a big difference in performance too. my car at idle doesn't shake as much, and i can tell a big difference otherwise. CLEAN YOUR EGR!!!! use that Lucas fuel stuff too. it works.

i forgot to add that i ALWAYS USE PREMIUM (91) octane. why try to save a couple dollars per tank to make your car not run optimally, and cause future problems?
#33
Yeah i use Plus but around here it is all 89 i can't find 91 anywhere. It is 87, 89, 93. So i have no way of actually filling up with 91 or i would. Oh and how hard is it to clean the EGR valve is there somewhere or someone that has a step by step way of doing it?
