CAI DIY questions..

Hi all,

I drive a 1997 3.2, was wondering if I'd be able to custom make a cold air intake for my car. I bought an almost new k and n cone filter off of craigslist for a great price. I'd like to somehow fit it down into the bumper with tubing. Now, I probably sound like a noob, and kinda am. I've removed the air filter assembly before for fun, but havnt touched the bumper, so i dont know what kind of space is down there =\

Would this even be worthwhile, performance-wise?...and I know I'd have to be careful about wetness, after reading about someone's engine stalling after going through a puddle and water getting into the filter...

Would there be a specific type of tubing I'd have to use? would I be able to have just a straight connection to the throttle body from the cone and tube?

If this sounds like a bad idea, its no big deal. The retail for $100 filter only cost be $30 at month old.

I'd appreciate any feedback

Thanks, Glenn

Plenty of space, do a search and you'll see my posts (amongst plenty others) regarding a CAI.

Hi all, thought I'd update. Out of curiousity I removed the air filter box, and put the cone filter on where the box would attach. I didnt want to remove that box that's closest to the radiator..(is it a resonator?) because of the big hole there would be in the tube. Because of the two openings that lead down into the bumper area that aim towards where the air filter box would have been, I think the cone is getting a decent amount of..'cool' air. \

Anyways, there is certainly a much more toned and vigorous sound coming from under the hood when i drive, especially in the low, or really high revs. I'm pleased with that. As for throttle response...I cant be too sure, I want to say a tad bit, but that might just be in my head. Going to try the cold air conversion either today or tomorrow.

Wrap IMG tags around those links for photos. IMG in between [] then /IMG between [] at the end of the link.

He is doing a short ram which is the same thing im doing too and your is a CAI. I tried putting it in like him and it does not fit. I think my friend has a tube extender or something I can probably try to borrow from him.
