brake prob??

well ive noticed this for a while with my car but i thought it was just the ABS since my last car i dont think had ABS but who knows (99 Intrigue). When i step on the brake, it seems like i have to press it in a little farther than most cars and it does the "brake, brake, brake" thing.. i have no clue if thats a good way to explain it. it doesnt come to a stop it more like slows down and nudges. make sense? prolly not but if you can sift thru my crap, do yall have this or what might be the cause? the brakes were about 1/2 worn in november when i bought the car by the way

Sounds like a booster problem from here. Im in my 2nd semester of Brakes and that what it sounds like. Anything else would help to. But im guessing the pedal is spongy and you need more force to stop. To start check your fluid then see if theres any air in the line and bleed them just to be sure. And if it still feels spongy and is harder to stop then for sure its the booster, Be like $150 bux.

what happens when you come to a stop and hold the brake down - does the pedal gradually sink to the floor? If so, time for a new master cylinder.

If the brakes a pulsating and sorta "catching" and the letting go pretty fast (this should be more evident at higher speeds such as braking from 70mph) then your rotors need to be machined.

im thinking its the rotors. its like a pulsating type of action but not extremely bad. i can still stop on a dime it just presses alittle farther than id think on the brake and it def pulsates some. not to bad like i said tho. whats a fair price for yur rotors to be machined??

If you feel vibrations under normal braking, then your rotors are warped. Get the rotors replaced and the pads as well.

Now, if you feel vibrations at the brake pedal under panic braking, then it's your ABS working. While that is working, your brake pedal will sink gradually to the floor. It's normal.

Anyone know if is it absolutely necessary to replace the pads when you replace the rotors? or just in this situation?

Normally you replace the pads as they will have wear patterns of the old rotor on them, and unknown heat stress and use
Depending on the make- you might be able to sandpaper them and re-use- others say nto to touch them
Unless you had them in a week and then fixed the rotors- then a good set of pad beddings will make the right again

whats YOUR situation

Hmm.. to change or not to change that is the question..
I have what I'm sure is warped rotors shaking when braking and coming to stop lights on regular roads and in traffic. When it gets slow enough (almost to a stop) I can actually feel the warped spot on the rotors as they turn. What do you mean "pad beddings?"

Thanks for the tip on Hell Toe
