they said call hondata and have then program my ecu..
That's not really smart idea. Hondata'll never deal with 5-cylinder engines, but even if they are, our ECU is not complitley OBD2, vigs ecu is not compatable with detonation sensors - and this is only beginning. If hondata'll deal with our ecu only for you - just imagine how much will it costs?

I just do not understand, why are you making more and more problems for yourself? OBD2-OBD1 convertion - what is it for, just for want of anything better to do? What wrong with A\T selector variant?

So, as I understood, you going to keep donor-vigor running, but with your A\T tranny? Hmmm... Interesting idea, but there are some problems: mechanical parts are the same, so tranny will fit, but threre isnt wiring for AT ECU (need to be made), selector's fittings are different in cabin (so some handwork needet) and most comprehensive part - is to join AT ECU with vigs engine ECU - some insoluble problems may appears. I guess that to find vigs AT tranny with its ECU and selector - will be more simple.

Someone on CL is selling a running 5sp Vigor for $300 in Mass. I would totally buy it if I had the money.

Did anything ever come of this? Sounds to me that the OP's friend bought a 5 speed, and OP had bright idea of talking him into switching trannys...

I think what Inspired[RUS] is trying to say about getting around the ECU problems is to use the stock automatic TL gear selector to trick the computer... hide it somewhere and wire the selector to always be in "park" so that the car will start and let you remove the key etc.
