See if you can find a Vigor that you can use as a parts car.

the swap should basic especially since the tranny bolts right up to the motor; but complex is the wiring?i am sure the plugs on tl & vigor computers are different?
the wiring is what scares me...

You'll need to switch over to OBD-I, there is NO compatible ECU that is OBD-2

So yank one out of a Vigor with a manual and you'll be fine

well the mechanic is a co-workers husband and he is like some guru with cars. the status? i havent even started, right now i have an auto with 202k and its on its way out. how will the car feel? fast and fun! i test drove a 5spd vigor just to see if its worth it and yes i would say so.

the mechanic would use me as an extra hand to help me save some money and i would buy all the parts from a yard (estimate 600 parts) and i wanna say 500 labor, he said it is a weekend project (1 weekend)

hey guys, trans is slowly going (still). in the mean time i have been looking at my options. would converting my tl to a 5spd add value to my car since it could be one of a kind? i have been trying to locate parts and talking to shops about it

Yes and no. It'll increase value to people specifically looking for a UA2, but it'll lower it to the general public. They will be scared that since it's unique, parts aren't readily available, etc., regardless of whether or not it's true.

~Cheers~

I did this swap two years ego. You will need:

vigs tranny
A\T shifter (not salon's but A\T's)
clutch and brake pedals
main and slave clutch cylynders (vigs clutch is hydro)
clutch resevior with lines
flywheel
flywheel bolts
clutch plate
clutch disk
release bearing
shifter and shifter rods
shift assembly (boots ect)
knob

I found crashed vig and take everything from him. Most difficult is to install clitch pedal lots of metrology and only after then is drilling - my advice. Under the bonnet you'll need to install clutch resevior, no problem with it - lots of space on engine bay. In salon you'll ned some saw works with shifter gap - MT needs more space. At last, when you put it all together you'll find that engine doesn't starts with new tranny. You'll need to put off selector from a\t tranny, connect it to its place and bring ground wire to him, or just screw it somewere to car's body (I srewd it under central console, near shifter). Guading by selector positions on dashboard select "P" position and forget about starting and key realising for ever. Its possible becouse we have no vtec or other systems which is depend on selector position. Almost forget - it's needet to bring two wires from "reverse moving sensor" on MT to selector or you reverse moving lights and strums will not work.

I think that it would be a DIY if you have a friend that knows what they are doing.

As I said, you have to drill holes for clutch pedal, for clutch resevior and expand shifter's gap. No more drilling or welding. You can use your differential and axes, they are the same with vigs. I forgot abot rear MT small mountains! You should take it (two of them) from vig too.

whats a salon mean ?
Within a car, inside a car - something like that.

It seems to me that they just want your money. Just take off A\T selector from automatic tranny, connect it to it's place (cutoff point stays on cabin wiring) and get him ground wire. D4 will blink anyway, but you can choose P position to release key and start the engine, drive and do whatever you need. I took off P and D4 lamps to avoid desterbing blinking.

Good luck finding another deal on a 5-speed vigor.

it will eventually be done, just need more time. i'm gonna buy a stock ecu/ ecm and send it out to have reprogrammed to work with the manual 5spd as obd2. while thats being done im also gonna see if they can tweak some more power out of my car since its getting reprogrammed anyways.

the swap is in progress though.. i just need to get some misc parts and figure out electrical, the biggest problem is switching them over from obd2-obd1 vise versa, so we will prob go another route.

in the mean time i will be doing some work on the transmission and engine.
