This is my first time posting even though I've been lurking for years. I have a 97 3.2TL that is having some starting problems. Last year my starter went out having the classic "clicking" symptoms. My husband replaced it and now all of a sudden, I am getting a scraping sound when I start the car. It always starts right up, but I get this scraping sound that you get when you try to start a car that is already running; ig that makes sense. Can anyone please tell me what this is. Is it the starter, ignition, etc? Has anyone ever experienced this? Thanks

sound like the starter, i hear the click click sound. sometime it doesnt want to start then after 5 min its trys to start ever have that problem?

It's the starter, my other Corolla had the same problem. Replaced started and it was not making any more sound.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping it wasn't the starter because my husband just replaced it the summer of last year.

That's what my starter sounded like a day before it died.

isn't there a noise condenser that is supposed to make ignition sound quieter?
maybe that is out..
