Who would be interested in custom headers?

I have a friend who does custom weldings and he's gonna look at my 2.5 if it's possible to make headers for it. He currently made headers for his IS and it added 35hp to the wheels. So we'll see what he can do for the TL.

Anyone interested?

dammit, 3.2 would have to have header(s) built... more money... sucks... 2.5... header.... less money. Oh well, I'm content with the front lip, and 30 extra horse.

lol@ ur avatar.

Werd, tell your friend to fab some for the 3.2 - Under $500 and I'm probably in. Would be nice to see some gains throughout the rev range, with minimal or no sacrifice in low end torque.

I think he's talking about the horsepower advantage the 3.2 has over the 2.5.

but, in this case, it's more like 24 horsepower.

176 vs. 200.

but maybe he's talking about something else, like he's modded under the hood or something. who knows?

Hmm... Arent the Acura Sabers=Vigor=2.5 TL?
I thought it was 176HP.Why is it 210?

Also theres rumors about the 2.5TL horse power being under rated. They say instead of it being 176HP, it is really 205HP. Could it be with premium gas or aftermarket intake? Does anyone know for a fact what it really is?
thanks.

I might dyno mine this summer just for the sake of figuring that out, how much the engine really has (or at least some concrete evidence for a rough number).

And 35 wheel hp from headers seems like quite a bit of power, can you back it up?

Oh it's not gonna give you 35whp on the TL. I meant it gave my friend 35hp at the wheels on his Lexus IS. He had it dyno-ed.

After we make the 1st prototype I'm obviously going to dyno it. I'm gonna venture a guess and say it's gonna give me 15-20 hp atleast.

Oh, I know you meant on his IS, those just seem like impressive gains, and if I was going to ptu the money down for headers, I would like some proof like that (before and after dyno with his car, your car, and/or other cars he has done)

Oh, and I was just talking about the advantage over the 2.5, which I will admit is not much... I saw a 2.5 on the highway and punched it... he stuck with me the whole way from like 50-90

The 2.5 is underrated big time. I have no problems staying with my friends 04 RL and 97 Maxima.

Oh...
I though the 3.2 was the Inspire.
And Saber=2.5TL.

How does the car achieve 210hps in Japan?
Could it be the computer?

Anyway,
does any one know where to buy acura TL 2.5 exhaust flanges?
And how should the tl 2.5 header look like?
Anyone with a sketch?

Oh, go select the model and everything. The flange is under "exaust manifold". You should be able to see it.

All Sabers, Legends, Inspire came in 2L/ 2.5L/ 3.2L
As for HP's, USDM have much lower power.Probably due to emmissions regulations.
Like a SOHC VTEC 1.5L Civic has 130hp stock. Newer Subaru Imprezza have 320+hp stock.
This year or next, the new Skylines are gonna have 400~500 Stock HP's.....meaning with mods, well over 1000hp! And Street Legal!

I did as described, but I found no flanges. Only the ones welded on the end of the exhaust manifold which is not it. I was looking for a flange plate that will be welded on the end of an exhaust pipe. Its used to connect 2 pipe together. Thanks though.

damn headers!! would be nice, means all we 2.5ers would need in terms of bolt ons would be a full cat-back exhaust system

What does youf friend have in his car that makes 35whp with a header? Is he supercharged? Most people on here have little to no aftermarket parts. Claiming 35whp on his will give people too high of a hope, therefore dissappointments will come later on.

Dont want to be the party ruiner, but I just want to clarify so people wouldn't expect 35whp out of their cars too

bumping an old thread as the Legend guys on acura-legend have been able to develop a set of headers for the 3.2 engines and have been able to get OBX to manufacture them... so there is hope for us 3.2 guys... they are running under $400.00... im considering them...

No kidding. There is no way in hell anyone is getting 35 rwhp out of a header on an IS300 unless there he's got a supercharger we don't know about. I can't stand it when people prey on kids who don't know that much about cars by claiming outrageous figures. A header on an IS will net MAYBE 10 horsepower to the wheels.

Hooked up = $780 installed. Have to tilt the motor and for 2-6FWHP, not worth it IMO. My friend can get the headers for me for less than what the eBay BIN price is (before shipping), and the rest is install (more than the headers themselves). I'm sure I can knock the install price lower a bit by calling in a few favours, but really not worth it. There just isn't enough room to have runners that do much. The OBX runners are about 1.5"-2" long at the shortest one, going to (OMG) 3" in the rear. Not to mention the way the down-pipe's collector is designed, it isn't the smoothest merge possible. Better to wait and see what Stromung cooks up for the Legend, but me forewarned that they will run you at least $1000.

~Cheers~

I'm with you on that one. But let's see what Stromung designs (if they'll even finish with a production one) and hope for the best!
