What octane in 97 2.5TL

Well, noticed today that the guages say PREMIUM FUEL ONLY on the speedo, and checked the manual and it said i should use 91 octane in the engine. Realized that out of habbit I filled up with 89 like I do with all the other cars I drive (think its 89 at least, I use the low end stuff cause I'm cheap, so the cheapest stuff) and was wonderind if I really should switch to 91 from now on and pay the couple extra dollars every time I fill up, or does it really make a difference?

Actually 85 is. (Never seen it though)

I've only seen 86 once or twice in the past 5 years.

I usually put premium in my car (fill it up) when it's on sale down the road. All other times inbetween when I put $5 just to get me home, I put in 89. I never ever put in 87..

I've got a '97 2.5 as well and I normally put 93 (we've only got 87,89, and 93 available here) in it. I notice that it gets better mileage with the 93 octane so I think I make up for the extra expense with the extra 30 miles a tank I get with it. But 89 will do the job if you're pressed for cash.

Oh yeah, out in the Rockies they have some lower octane gas because of the high altitude. That region even gets its own cooking directions. :gheywave:

Is 93 more expensive than 91 is here? Or is it equal because its the only thing offered?
I always use 91

LOL, yeah, higher altitude they have 85 octane, and they are actually jetted a little differently...or they should be. I never use anything under 91 unless I have to, then I use 89 with ethanol. In ND we only have 87, 89, or 91, sometimes I can find 92. I know I filled with 93 or 94 (cant remember exactly) and went on a long trip back from Minneapolis, and I got a few points better gas milage. It was sweet.

Put some 89 in tonight, with 87 I got just over 20 MPG, also with a monkeyed up O2 sensor still waiting to be fixed, and a good amount of time stuck in traffic.

So far things seem to actually sound better with 89, but it could just be my imagination...

I thought it could be just my head too...but it seemed to run smoother and a little quicker too when using better gas. could be mental, but hey, its all about perception anyways right? heh

I use 91 and always have i don't really think anything of it because im use to it and i do drive a lot. In certain places of cali you can find 93 octane which is still hard to find. Then other than that we got racing fuel 110+

This isn't really a since it does concern a different car and kind of a different topic... anyways... check this thread out about a 93 Legend... you might see what the difference between the two octanes are... and why its worth spending the extra green for supreme... thats cool, it ryhms... how ever you spell that... lol... anyways click here to see the thread...

I put 94 octane from Sunoco a few times when I was on the east coast, gave me 28 mpg while averaging 75 to 85 mph.
