what a nightmare.
what a nightmare.
Yesterday I went to my friend's house and parked my car in the spot next to his driveway.
As I'm leaving I see a fantastic parking ticket for an expired inspection ticket.
$65. Gotta love when you're completely oblivious to important things like that.
Ok, so time for an inspection. I got up nice and early today and went to the mechanic.
Usually they just glance at it and give you the sticker.
Not anymore. To my disbelief, I failed inspection. NYC dmv now requires the inspecter to wire your car up and check for errors.
Lol. You can probably imagine how many wonderful things I have to do now.
Not only did my check engine light burn out, when it was turned back on... it detected engine misfire yay!!! Not to mention bad oxygen sensors. Now I know some of you are going to tell me there is a warranty on it. But my father refuses to let me go to Acura being that he's afraid I'll get charged so far up the ass, I won't be able to pull myself out.
I could have misheard this, but I think the mechanic said there were 3 cylinder misfires. I don't even know how that's possible. But I think it's just one considering the phone was choppy.
All the New Yorkers on here, be prepared for a shit storm next time you go for inspection!
Now my question is, how likely is it that Acura will actually reimburse me for these things? The warranty says they will, but... can I hear some of your experiences?

From the sounds of it you misinterpretted what the mechanic said or he didn't know what he's saying. Chances are your car wouldn't run on 2 or 3 cylinders (I don't know what engine you have) so there is no way all three are misfiring. Unless your car idles rough then chances are none of your cylinders are misfiring. They probably just misfired once or a few times and the computer recorded the codes. The light doesn't go away until it's reset, or at least it shouldn't. If the light is reset and stays off then there shouldn't be any problem. If the light returns then you should find the codes it still has and then go to Acura for them to fix it.
North Carolina has been doing the OBDII emissions inspections for a few years now so I'm pretty used to what they do now. Actually, it's a whole lot faster than sticking a sensor in the tail pipe to test emissions.
If your car is '95-'97 with under 150k miles on it, take it in. They'll fix it for ya for free.

I wouldn't be suprised if that helps your problems quite a bit..

I've had my EGR port cleaned under the warranty for free. Also had my free service done.

As for the cylinder misfires, it's probably just an intermittent misfire which can actually be related to the bad O2 sensor, or a dirty air filter, or a bad spark plug, etc etc. I would just do a full tune up and have the o2 sensor's replaced first, I bet that will help your problem a LOT.
Cornflake, you're absolutely right, almost.
The o2 sensors were related to the misfires, but the cylinders did have faulty connections which were detected as misfires as well.
Basically to pass inspection I just took out my o2 sensors with another cars and it worked.
Now I am going to Acura, and Vishnus11, before jumping to conclusions that my father is an idiot... realize that he has reasons for hating dealerships because the last time he went to a dealership he was screwed over massively when his Toyota tranny broke. They refused to do anything with it.
Truthfully, its hard to try to find a legitimate dealership in the New York area or even a decent mechanic. Most are trying to find corners to rip you off or at least make the dirtiest penny they can get their hands on. And I did get the emissions warranty letter. Everytime I go to get warranty stuff done, not with this car, they find something else that is "mandatory" to fix. OR hidden fees, anything really.
