warm up car....faster heat?
does accelerating while the car is parked help to warm up the car faster and is this wise? does this cause any damage? I though this might help to get my heat going faster so i dont have to spend so much time in a cold car...thnx

To my understanding the worst damage occurs initially when u start it up, cause the oil in the engine (between the cylinder and pistons) is no longer fully coated with the oil. However naturally when the car is cold it doesn't feel like the car wants to turn faster, so in that case just wait the extra 10 minutes until the oil warms up...it only seems like its taking forever since your the one whose freezing to death.
I mean would you like it if someone woke you up at 5 in the morning and through you outside in your boxers? You need time to get ready... lol I think its obvious if you must jump in and leave right away to go easy on it till she warms up a bit!

Let the engine rev down to approx 1K rpm (about 2 mins) then drive away slowly to let wheel and transmission oils and grease warm up also.
its been deathly cold here and I let it warm almost completly up then I go back out and drive off slowly. temps are -25c or -13F with a wind chill of-35c or -31F.those old higher compression motors turn REAL slow.
More on that later................

The purpose of warm-up is not to provide you with heat. Use the seat heater for that until the engine temp is up.
You warm up the engine to let the oil circulate and provide protection to parts that move hundreds of times a second. Do not rev the engine to warm it up faster. You are achieving the complete opposite goal by doing that. You're better off to just start driving than doing that.

i usually just wait until 1k rpm without revving.
i heard somewhere that if you don't let your car get down to at least 1200rpms before taking a short trip it can be considered harsh driving.

I took Autotech for like 2yrs or so in high school and i remember my teacher (previous diesel mechanic) sternly warning against revving the engine to expedite warming it up, as he said it to be damaging to car. Side note if you guys have ever been to a race track, it always cracks me up to see people put ice bags on their engines. Seat warmers? my 98 2.5tl does not have these.....im a little jealous although i live in TX so it is not needed.

Remote starter works great.
Winter warms up car, summer cools down car since we all have auto climate controls. Mine works pretty far too. I can start car atleast 1 block away and don't have to worry about thieves. It shuts off the engine if any1 pulls door handle and the alarm is still on too. I also set it to only stay on for 15 minutes then it shuts off automaticly. Well worth the money.

Start it up and warm up as normal. 1~2 minutes and then go. It will warm up faster if you actually move than just idling. Take it easy on the first few miles, as mentioned, it needs the oil brought up to temp!
There's no need to warm up more than 5 minutes. Wasting gas.

Sorry don't know the cost of remote starter or install. I bought the car that way, but the alarm I have is a viper.

and to clear up any confusion... if the seat heater is set on High, it will be on regarless if there is pressure applied to the seat or not... when it is set on Low, if there is no pressure on the seat, it will turn itself off...
