Tweeter wires?
Tweeter wires?
hi,
I got an after market head unit for my car.
The old one had 8 speakers. I can only find 6 speaker wires based on a shrocse harness I bought from Best Buy. However, I cant find the 2 tweeter speaker wires near the windshield. Are the wires located on the headunit harness? The shcorse harness Id bought only tells me 4 speakers but I was able to find the 2 center speakers at the roof by tracing to make a total of 6. Anyone, help please!

The 2 inch midranges (on the roof) have their own blue wiring harness.

The midranges wont work with aftermarket units.. its a separate wiring harness..
I've tried everything myself.. I went back to my stock system and in my opinion, it sounds amazing to begin with (I do have nakamichi speakers though)

No. That is the only way to take out the factory h/u.
Once u have your aftermarket h/u in, you can remove it as instructed by their instructions.
If u hook up the mids by splicing with the fronts they will not fade.
They will play at full sound and they will play too loud.
So what everyone end up doing is leaving them out of the system.

The Easiest Way To Remove The Head Unit
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That is the most drawn out, useless explanation of how to remove the radio that I've heard to date. Here is the fastest, simplest way to take out the factory head unit (and install a new OEM or aftermarket one).
The carpet trim under the radio (in front of the shifter) wraps around each side of the console towards the underneath portion of the dash on both the driver and passenger side. On the drivers side, pull on the end of that carpet trim and it will open like a door or flap. If you lay on your back in the drivers side floorboard with the seat as far back as it will go, you can shine a flashlight up towards the back side of the radio and you will see 2 silver 8mm phillips/hex head bolts that hold the OEM radio to the dash framework. All you will need to do this job is a 1/4" ratchet, an 8" or 10" extension for the ratchet, and an 8mm universal socket (which has the swivel built on...or you can use a 1/4" universal adapter with a standard 8mm socket). Use these tools to remove the 2 bolts and pull the radio out of the dash.
This is the best way to take out the radio because you don't have to fool around with wood trim breaking or scratching it with your little screwdriver...It's just easy. The install kit that came with my aftermarket head unit (from Crutchfield) fit directly into the dash that snapped into place in the dash.
I hope this helps some poor bastard like myself who had a hard time finding out how to do this without replacing all the dash parts...later.

Why cant they just put them on the same harness as the center speaker?
The thing is, it hard to trace because under the dash, there is the air duct blocking access to the tweeter wire. But I guess I was have to remove the tweeter to find the color of the wires.
As for the no fader problem,
I've found a module you can buy to use to control the volume. You'll have to adjust the volume individually.
But my new headunit has a center channel so I can control it with the system to get surround sound.
I now will have 11 speaker channels once I can find the tweeter wires.
2= 6.5
2 =6x9
2 =roof center

2 =tweeters
2 =subwoofers2 subwoofer mounted under the front seats
The dash tweeters and door mids are on the same wire. (run in parallel). If you are using stock speakers, just use that wire and you will be fine. If you are using aftermarket with a passive crossover, then you will have to run a new wire to the tweet, and just use the factory for the door.

Today, I took a sick day off of work to finish up an RPG game.
I finished it earlier than had planned. So, I went out to my car and tried to trace the tweeter wires. Unfortunately I can't. There was a wall blocking access to the wires underneath the dash. For anyone interested in the wire colors, it is,
Left Front Tweeter wires
-------------------------------
+ =blue/green
- =Gray/Black
Right Front Tweeter wires
--------------------------------
+ =Red/Green
- =Brown/Black
The colors should look familiar if you had install a new headunit.
It is the same color wires of the 6.5' left/right front door speakers.
This concludes that the tweeter wires are spliced into the 2 front speakers, and the splice part is done somewhere behind the wall that blocks access to the tweeter under the dash. Its funny, before I even noticed this, my plan was to rewire the tweeters and slice it onto my front speaker wires. That would of been a waste of my F****in day. To confirm that it was running out of the front speaker wires, I used my brother's stethoscope on the tweeters while cracking up the stereo and it works. The thing is, why is the volume like 50% lower than the other speakers?
