Trouble starting car

My car won't start unless I get a jump start from someone. Once I turn off the engine from a jump start, I'm back to where I started. I even drove for a couple of hours hoping my battery would charge up, but no luck.
Nothing was left on so I don't understand why my battery is dead. It might not be my battery but I'm certain it is. The signs: dim lights, lights and radio don't work simultaniously, and my alarm doesn't work.
I'm probably going to have to go to the dealership but before I take that dreaded step I was wondering if any of you might have a solution ( anything besides taking a risk and buying a new battery). Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

You don't have to take a risk of unecessarily buying a new battery. Autozone or Pep Boys can check the battery for you for free and tell you if the battery is bad or not.

Sears will too, but you should completely charge it up first. I always but DieHards becuase they will give you a loaner while they check yours out. Besides, Diehards have lasted through 5-8 Chicago winters for me (when I lived there) and my cars never spent a day in a garage. When I sold a car, I swaped the battery.

Sweet, I didn't know Autozone did free battery checks. I may hop down there or Sears; good thing I have a portable jump starter.
I hope it's not my alternator, I don't have the funds to get it repaired or replaced.
Thanks for the suggestions.
