Transmission slipping?

Sorry, don't mean to ask a simple questions, but what happens when a transmission slips? Will it occur in every gear or just 4th?

It could just start out in 4th and then move on to the rest. You'll feel the engine revving and then all of a sudden trans kick in and start moving.

What are you feeling?

Here's what happens...when I'm cruising in 4th or I slow down, I find that when I (even) slightly accelerate again, my car "hesitates" for a moment - the tach rises maybe 200rpm then drops back. It's a slight hestitation but significant enough for me to post. If I press on the gas from here(further) it won't do it, just that initial time back on the accelerator. If I press hard, it'll downshift into 3rd. Otherwise, the car seems to shift fine, even into 4th. I was told because of the age of the car not to do a flush, but only a drain and fill. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Has anyone tried Lucas stop slip? Thanks for your help!
