Tranmission Oil Leak?
I have a 96 2.5 TL and have noticed that there appears to be a transmission leak. It doesn't leak when it siting but if I got for a long highway drive I can see all the red fluid on the entire transmission and all down the exhaust from being carried by the wind.
Honda told me that it looked like it came out the breather valve and might have just happaned as a one time thing. I cleaned up the oil and noticed the same thing after a 500 KM drive.
I took it to AAMCO and they said that it it probably the main seal between the tranny and the engine. They quoted me 8 hours label to take it out and put it back in plus the seal so about $600 USD. They said that to rebuild the transmission at the same time would be $1450 USD and more if any actual parts are damaged inside.
My transmission fluid has not really come down that much. I am guessing it must be a slow leak. Also, the tranmission seems to run fine and no slipping. I do notice a noise when I put it into drive or reverse. But other than that it runs good.
Has anybody had this problem in the past or have any advice.
Also, how do you guys check you transmissoin oil. I followed the user manual and service manual and both say to warm the engine to driving temp and turn it off and then check. AAMCO says to have the engine running. I noticed the oil level is lower when it is running as opposed to off. I am guessing this is because of the torque convertor taking up fluid and the radiator and lines.
Please Help.

I had the same problem about 2 months ago. It was leaking very small amounts. But I didn't want to take a chance and make the problem became worse buy not doing anything about it. So I paid $700 to have it resealed at AAMCO.

I can't afford that so I'll look for another tranny shop to deal with it.
