TL saved my life!

Man I almost died tonight.

I was at a gas station filling up the TL. I usually don't fill up at midnight but I had no choice because I was running on fumes.

So I'm standing there pumping gas and these two skinhead types in an S10 with a girl pulls up. The driver says hey where's so and so intersection? I said those roads don't meet. Then the guy asks for a couple of bucks to fill up. I said I had nothing for him. He said how are you filling up your fucking car? Then he drives off.

He comes back after a few moments and throws his coke at me (actually hits me). I'm like ok time to pack up. I'm screwing on my gas cap (see these guys did a bunch of peel out rings around the gas station) when they stop about 20 ft off my car and get out. The driver pulls a gun which I see in the rear view. I drop the car into drive and peel off into the road.

I'm at the light looking around for where these bitches are. Suddenly, he's driving over the damn grass and stuff coming right for me. His angle is such that he could skewer me if I go straight, so I drop the car into reverse and pull back. The guy misses clipping my front end by maybe 2 feet. He does a hard turn and comes back at me from the other (driver) side. I drop the car into 1st and run the light. I redline every single gear up to pulling maybe almost 100. I see him drop farther and farther back. I turn off my lights and pull a hard right into this road and call 9-1-1. I see this truck (might have been theirs, but not sure) scream past in the rear view. Then I make a U turn and get off the small side street back onto the large road. I meet the police at another gas station and make a case, but there's probably nothing they can do since I have no plate numbers etc.

I decline an escort home but I do drive around in an endless circle for a little bit. Anyway, I bitch about the TL's lack of a manual and slowness and everything but in the end, she doesn't let me down.

*Whew*

Similar thing happened just outside of DC. A jackass pulled out a gun on me, I was quick enough to kick it out of his hand, get to my car and call 9-1-1 and drove off. He chased me in his "IROC Camaro". Unfortunately this was before my Type II mods so his car gave him an advantage but being a decent driver and having taken some courses, I lost him on the Beltway. Crazy shit and I'm glad I'm no longer living in that area.

Who are all of these yokels that can afford guns. What the hell.

Anyway for the Houston people, this was on FM1960 and Perry Rd at a Shell gas station. This would be the Northwest side of town.

Ok I asked the police about that and they said that gas station sucks. They've reported people stealing gas before and then the police would ask them for video footage but they don't have cameras.

I've been kicking around this thought but I guess I should tell you guys now since life is precious and the future is uncertain and all of that .

I own a video-production house (actually co-own with some friends). We're hitting some kind of slow patch and don't have much to do. Has anybody ever seen this "World of Honda" commercial? I think I'm the only one. It was pretty long and it was basically a floating camera following Honda products around. I remember one part it went from a Civic in the road to a lawnmower. I also remember one part where an NSX was driving along the beach and out in the ocean were some Honda jetskis.

Ok my point is one of my friends and I have been kicking this idea around where we can make an Acura lineup commercial just to have something to do. I'll keep you guys posted on how this goes but I just thought I should tell you all what's going on.

If we can't find enough cars to help us out, it might just become a 1st Gen Acura commercial.

Ok, i'm not a preacher or anything but you mentioned that you were running on fumes and had to fill up. If those thugs came 2 minutes earlier, you would not have had time to fill up your tank, so even if you had an NSX, it would have done you no good. Point being, God saved your life, not the TL.

Haha I know right. I've considered packing a Glock or something.

But if you carry a gun, you better be prepared to use it. The criminal's going to think, "if I don't shoot him, he'll shoot me!"

Anyway, I work at the airport (my fulltime job. The production house is a side thing). I can't carry a gun in my car.

I'm glad too. I was talking to my girlfriend at the time I was filling up. When it looked bad I told her, "I think there's going to be trouble" and I hung up.

I didn't have time to call her until I was safely at the gas station with the police. She was pretty shaken up and crying. But better it happened to me than to her.

you know whats funny, i lived in boyle heights with my car for the longest over 4 years, and luckily never has anything ever happened to me... (knocks on wood) and I drive to all the wonderfull places, Compton, Lynwood, South Central, and some additional fucked up areas and thank god nothings happened to me. Although parents did get car jacked in 94 by a freakin cracked out junky whom had just killed 3 people the day before. (nothing happened to them crackhead had just run out of bullets as he shot up a gasoline up the street about 2 hours earlier) But luckily ive been preety fortunate...

was it just two assholes looking for trouble , was it race related, what do you think was the motivation behind their stupidity????

I live out in the 'burbs. Obviously not as safe as people would like to think.

My girlfriend lives in downtown and we regularly walk her neighborhood. It's not as pretty as the suburbs but damn it's actually safer.

I don't know. Target of opportunity or something.

Might have been race related. I am Asian.

They had the wonderful tattooes that made them look like they had just come off of the set of American History X. Not to be ragging on anybody that shaves their head and has tattooes. Just what I saw and thought.

thats why I pack my HK .45 with me wherever I go. If someone bucks at me, you know DAMN WELL im going to blast back.

Wackjum: you and I both live in houston and you KNOW better to not pack heat when going out past 11. Thats why I go to the shooting range once or twice a week to practice on my target

You guys are insane with all of these guns. The more you carry a gun, the more likely you are to use one.

I'm not one to ban firearms. I own three myself. But how many of us good abiding citizens can actually bring ourselves to shoot a person? It's a line easily talked about but difficult to cross. It is estimated only 1/4 of soldiers on the battlefield ever fired their weapons at an enemy soldier (taken from a WWII study). The rest didn't use their weapons or shot at nothing.

A criminal with a weapon came up to you knowing his intentions. You are a reactor to what he does. Chances are, your gun isn't strapped to you cocked. How the heck are you going to whip out your gun in time if he's already got it out? Even worse if its under your seat or trunk or whatever. I give the criminal the upper hand in 90% of shootout situations.

And besides, I work at the airport night shift. I couldn't have been carrying a weapon on this (or most) nights.

Ok I'm sorry for going on about the gun thing.

But still, I am surprised so many of you guys pack heat. Maybe it's time I got a 740iP instead.

(BTW that's the one that has the kevlar lined doors and bullet resistant glass)

Yep, our cars def. got the pep when you need them. And they're easy to drive too so having more comfortable control probably helped you too.

That's crazy man. I haven't had any chases like that in the TL, but WAYYY back in the day (I think I'm the oldest one on the 1st gen board here!! :killer: ) had a couple of instances in my MOM"s Passat! Thanks GOODNESS I knew how to drive that car, had a shotgun pulled on me at the convenience store around the corner from my house one time...and I live in the burbs man!! LOL Laffin now, but If I hadn't outrun those little thugs, would've been a different story! Glad to hear you escaped as well, gotta wonder what goes on in people's heads sometrimes, how they can be so damned ignorant.... Makes me !!!
