i've been getting many cdpe0 errors and finally decided to get my whole player changed.. but is the car 96' 3.2 TL pre amplified? because that would mean more money for me and a couple of people couldnt really tell me if it was or not

 

I don't think it is.

 

yes, its preamped but its weak. dont rely on the factory amp to power your aftermarket tweeters or speakers. however, you can buy an aftermarket headunit with a built in amp that will help..a bit. 60 watt amp in a headunit is about what you want to get but its expensive. i have a alpine headunit with 60 watt and it makes such a big improvement

well, baller im not really looking to power anything, the factory sound is really good enough for me.. i just need to get a new cd player cuz i get that cd pe0 error message ALL the time and cannot play cds which is really irratating now that i drive everywhere... so im just looking to get the stereo changed and was wondering if it would require rewiring.... but baller.. just in case i do get it changed... how much did it cost u? the alpine headunit with 60 watt. and is that all i need to buy or some other parts as well? i am sorry but i am a car newbie.. just wanna fix my sound !

i just got a 96 3.2 and i was getting the same error and was like wtf? I borrowed my friends lens cleaner cd and ran it once. now it plays cds but not any burned cds. Im going to borrow it again and use it a couple times to see if the burned ones start working.; I think the cleaner's like 15 bux. try it out before getting a whole new unit!

BTW I'm not impressed with the stock. it also seems to skip a lot over bumps, or if i close the glove. I'm thinking about getting a new head unit and putting it in the glovebox and leaving the stock in the dash?

 

yeah, either try cleaning it or try to "reinstall" the factory unit by rekeying in the code. all of the tl's have a code for the cd player.

i paid 300 bucks for my alpine unit but this was 3 years ago. you also need to buy a head unit kit (the casing that goes around the head unit) as well but thats cheap.

 

i've tried the lens cleaner, no luck... haha lol when i first put it in it gave me cdpe0 haha. how do i rekey in the code baller? i have no clue what that is =(

now my options are:

get new head unit and get rewiring done... 150-250$
or get a cd changer in the back 100-200$

but id much rather have the new head unit...

and im not running burned cds.. im using cds that i buy in stores too... its realy making me mad and i want to get this resolved soon because i'll be off for college...
