Talking Tcs And Remote Unlock

Hey guys! Long time Honda owner, newly a TL owner! I just bought a used 97 3.2 tl and I had some questions. I received a single key for the car and was wondering if these cars originally came with a remote for the door locks. Also, I understand the TCS is the traction control, but what does pressing the button do? Just to turn it off? to spin the tires lol I have no idea if our locks are designed for a remote or not. Lastly, I really dont liek the gold emblems on the front and back, especially since other accents are chrome. Does anyone know where to get chrome emblems, or do I get them from the dealer? Thanks

You probably can find the emblems on ebay or even at a salvage yard in your area.

They do come with the keyless entry option. You can by a remote from ebay and program it yourself, but they are expensive. The cheapest one now I believe is $140, once in a while they'll pop up for about 60, but that's rare.

I bought mine used as well and it came with two remotes and three keys, one of which was for valet.

"I understand the TCS is the traction control, but what does pressing the button do? Just to turn it off?"

The button turns the traction control system off. You would want to turn it off if you were putting your front wheels on a dyno or something similar. In Illinois, our old emissions control checking facilities put the front wheels on a dyno. It would wreck your TCS and brakes if you left the TCS on.

^ Not true. I dyno'd with TCS on. The info has been in my sig since August '06. All it did was lower my dyno readout by a few HP but enough that I wanted to go back and redo it with TCS off.

It's helped me a couple times, but I've been able to power through it intentionally anyway. Some Supra buddies also thought about keeping the TCS system on as a safe guard for dealerships and valets from boosting, but most of them can just power through the TCS. Unfortunately I forgot to turn it off once in the waterbox and stopping after chirping is pretty embarrassing, haha. I redeemed myself with a two-wheeled burnout that left me coughing inside the car, haha.

Keep the system on (TCS light off) until you know that you don't want it.

I wish I could've taken it with me! She's hard parked right now. I had to teach my mom how to start the car and cycle the gas, haha. Shipping it here to Japan would've been cheap, but the kicker was emissions testing, of all things. They want approximately USD$6000 to do emissions testing and that's the base price. I swear, Cali cars should get a waiver considering we've got the most stringent emissions requirements and I pass them with flying colours, WITHOUT the need for a hook up, haha.

I think I can get through the emissions requirements but it's not really worth it when I can buy another one here and start over with a chassis that has less mileage. That way, I'll have one here and one in SF. One of our Supra buddy's doing that with two 80 Supras. <- I can't afford to do that with those cars anymore...

~Cheers~
