Starter dilemma

I am at 260k now and few months back the starter started giving “click” problem. I brought one from Advance Auto and took it to my mechanic. Later that day the mechanic called me and told me that it was not the right starter.
Long story shot, they got the starter from their source and all was good until last month or so. Every now and they it would click but engine does not get engaged for first 7 or 8 tries.

My question is, should I get another one from AutoZone or O’riely or get a used one from the salvage yard?
Car is too old to get the real stuff from the dealer. It costs around $250.00 at the dealer and than my shop wants $150.00.
On the other hand, O’Riely got it for less than $130.00.

If anyone has better experience with an after market product, let me know.

Did you search at all? At the top of the page there is a sticky for this same problem. Mine did this and they "rebuilt" the starter, but it's the contacts that really needed the TLC. Mine's been good for over 2 years now.

I purchased a replacement starter for my 2.5TL from Autozone. It's been in over a year and works fine.

Suggest adding your vehicle ID (3.2 or 2.5TL to your signature line so it's always presented when you post.

good luck
