Shudder from engine or drive train at speed

My 1998 3.2 TL is at 205k. We just took a trip on the interstate and noticed a really bad "shudder" when at constant speed. I did several things, slowed down, dropped down to D3, etc etc but the shudder returned everytime I got to a constant speed after a few miles. Has anyone seen this before? I got the mechanic, with whom I have been doing business for ~ 15 yrs, to drive it today. He is going to replace both inner CV joints. He offered to change one (50/50 chance, right?). I said, heck with it, let's do both since it has 205k on it... Just wanted to see if anyone else has seen this on their 3.2 TLs. Thanks in advance for any responses!

Nope. Mine is "at speed" when the car has been running at a constant speed for like a mile or so, not when shifting as noted in the post you referenced. I shoulda done a search, though before posting.... It is getting worse, so it will be really interesting to see if replacing CV joints fixes the problem! I will post a reply once I've driven it a bit after having the CV joints replaced.

Well...

I notice this shudder at 55 to 60 mph at constant speed.

For the record, I need to replace my CV boots, since they are leaking.. perhaps your suspicions are correct?

Sticky on 1st Generation TL Problems

See last page of this discussion and in particular posts by RaceRock on transmission shudder. This sounds like your problem.

good luck

Yeah we do. It's not THAT hard to clean it off or get another one. It makes a world of difference.

Remove trans pan and replace screen. Removing trans pan requires removal of transission mount system. An Acura shop manual is highly recommened if you plan to DIY.

good luck

Had both inner CV joints replaced last Friday (12/2/05). No more shudder, and we have done a fair amount of high speed driving since that time. Feels better to me when accelerating between gears, too. For everyone's info, having them replaced by a mechanic cost me ~$420 total after tax.
