Went to a Honda/Toyota specialty place to get my oil change...free.
They then told me that they
-Recommend timing belt by age and mileage
-Recommend throttle body clean and service
-Recommend power steering system fluid flush
-Recommend PCV valve replacement by mileage
-Recommend 30K interval service
they also said that the outer CV boots are cracking...
can somebody show me where this is?
How much would the above listed cost???

the CV boots are right behind the wheels/rotors. they hold the CV joint, bearings, and grease. it's job is to transfer the power to the tires to make them turn. you only have 2 (one on each side), but there are 4 boots...2 per joint. if you look under your car in the front, you'll see some ribbed rubber material. those are your CV boots. i'll try to take a pic if you don't see where i'm talkin about. but right now it's dark and rainy out so i can't. :/

do you know what the original brand of the timing belt is? I don't know when the timing belt was changed, but I think it says mitsubishi on it. I assume it's been changed already.
Thanks Dubcnea! Please take a pic for me of the CV boots. Once I know what it is, I will take a pic of it myself and show you guys. What happens if the CV boots crack all the way?
the one that the dealership put on mine also says mitsubishi, and the guy i talked to said that is a normal thing. also, when a mechanic changes the timing belt, NORMALLY they will write it somewhere up top of the engine, such as on the radiator...since it is such a big thing. checking the belts is also a good idea to get a timing of the change, but not a certainty.
i'll take a pic tomorrow, since i got my car in the garage tryin to put my system in it. if the CV boots crack all the way (or even quite a bit) it will do a few things: 1.) fling grease all over the bottom side of your car behind the boots (yuck!!); 2.) your bearings can fall out of your boot, and that is VERY bad....your joint can then fall completely out of your boot, causing a lot of damage to more than the joint of the car; 3.) if you do lose your bearings, you will most likely hear a clicking sound when you turn (kind of like a very big, very noisy popcorn machine) and that is when you know that your joints are 'dead'. i'd strongly suggest getting them changed, even if the boot is just cracked, although the boot can be changed and repacked. getting a completely new one may not even be all that much more expensive, but you'd have to ask. i had both of mine completely changed out.
keep eye out for pic.

ok. well here is the pic. as you can see, the boots are circled in red if it wasn't already quasi noticable. you have two per shaft, and inside and outside. if either one is ripped badly, you should have it replaced for sure.

vanz.. just FYI, i had the driver side CV Boot replaced (outer) from dealership for about $350. the service rep said i had two options, (1) either replace the entire joint since we are already spending labor on the boots or (2) take my chances just replacing the boots. the difference was about $200.
i went with option 2, knock on wood, after 20k miles it still seems to be holding well.

CV Boots die after 100,000 miles, it is just wear. The key would have been, if you pay attention and it starts cracking, then it is about the right time to replace just the Boots, but the labor to do it is the same as to replace the entire Axle.
It is a good idea to raise your car and go and observe. Anything that is leaking, grease, oil, tarnny fluid, cooland, Brake fluid, PS fluid....then you can be pro-active and treat the problem as they happen. This is the only way you can get to know your car and save money and down time in the future, plus, it is tyhe bonding.....with the car......see?

I didn't get a chance to look at my car this morning. I woke up late and had to go to work. I kinda remembered the tech saying it was about 175 or something to fix it. I will have to call again, I was in a hurry that day.
i would stay away from dealer on this one too. they will rape you. go to a local shop with a good rep and have them do it. it's true....same labor to change the boot as to replace the joint. it's worth the extra money to me since you'll know it's done and done right. now you won't have to worry for another 100k miles.
I took pics of it last night, they look fine in the camera, haven't loaded them yet on the computer to see.
I am not sure if this dealer is a reputable one, but they are a BBB participant.
How many quarts of oil should our car take? I thought it was five, he only put four in.

Got some pics here. Is this the outer CV boot? This is for the left front wheel. Does it appear to be cracking?
This is the inner one. Same wheel.
Okay. Not sure what the name of this belt is, but something looks wrong. I did not see any sticker about when the last time the timing belt was changed, so I guess it wasn't huh?

ok, well i'm not super expert on this car (yet :P) but from i can see, the outer looks to be cracking a bit. perhaps just a boot change is the way to go since the inner, to me, looks perfectly fine. now i can't see the other half of it, but the half in the picture looks just fine (the inner). the outer may not be in that bad of shape yet, but it won't ever get better, only worse.
that belt looks horrible. i would have that changed. that is accident waiting to happen IMO. i'm not sure how long that will last, maybe months. but if it were me, i'd have it swapped out just to be safe and have peace of mind.
as far as not seeing a sticker, did you look just on the radiator? it can really be anywhere in the engine bay, but most of the time is on the radiator. if you don't see one anywhere, then it really is anyone's guess as to the time it was changed, if at all. let us know what goes on.

Nevermind...price changed, just called them and this is the price to fix some things.
Timing belt - $730 (timing belt, drive belt, water pump, cam something something)
Throttle body clean - $78
Power Steering flush - $130
PCV valve replacement - $32
30K Interval service - $395
Both CV Boots - $240
Sound decent? Man....I aint got no money
What don't I need from the list? I just went to Acura for an emissions tune up about 4 months ago.

well, hmmm. that bad thing about the timing belt is that it's so touch and go. if it hasn't been changed, then maybe it'll last another 50k miles, maybe 50 miles? so that's always and issue. how many miles do you have anyway??? i don't think that was ever mentioned.
if you have 105k, then i guess timing belt and water pump would be a go. that's what i had to do right when i bought my car (so much for getting it for under blue book). the 30k interval service is not necessary if you have 105k miles, since they have a 105k mile tune-up. if they tell you any different, then they are lying. and if the other CV boot on the other side of the car is fine, then you don't need to change it. you only change those when they rip, that's what i've always heard (and done). and you really only need to have the outer boot changed, not both. i'm not sure if you can just do the outer, but i'd ask anyways.
the other things i got was a tranny flush and radiator flush. but i had to get a new radiator so that's why i did that. i wouldn't do whatever they say just cuz they think it's in your best interest. usually it's in theirs. the other thing to do would be to take the car to a local shop and ask them what they think. relying strictly on the dealer isn't always the best idea. you should never pay for what you don't need.

well, quick response.....it sounds like you might have to get the timing belt and water pump. if you have recently got the car, like after the 105k range, call the dealer and ask if there are any service records on it.

also try here:
https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/login.asp
you login then enter VIN, etc. if anyone has done this that has owned your car, maybe you can find more info out on it.

post what records the dealer have for it. if they have none, then unfortunately you kind of have to start from 'scratch', which means getting things done to it. i would start with the timing belt, water pump, etc...the most important IMO at that mileage.
