replacing head gaskets?

this is my first message posting in this forum! situation:while i was overseas, my girlfriend was driving my '96 3.2tl. I told her to get the coolant flushed, but i believe she only added more coolant. now my coolant reserve tank is steaming and white smoke is going everywhere. i think my coolant pump is damaged and maybe also one of my head gaskets. coolant pump easy to replace but what about head gasket. should i try to get head gasket fixed or think about replacing engine? PLEASE HELP!!!!! ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!

for my 2.5... it was either $800 to fix the gasket... or replace the engine for $1200. my car had 160K miles on it so it was time for a new engine. but anything under $600 should be a good price to fix a head gasket.
