Problem starting while using Fuel System Cleaner?

Have any of you had a problem starting the car when you have a fuel system cleaner in the gas tank? The last two times I have used a cleaner (Techron) I have had problems starting the car. Turn the key, hear a click, then nothing. It usually starts after a few tries. Battery is less than a year old.

I have used fuel system cleaners a few times every year for the last 8 years. I have a 96 3.2 with no other problems , 158,000 miles.

It sound like a problem with your starter. Nothing to do with fuel system cleaner.

Bang on the side of your column opposite the key cylinder. If it starts fine afterwards, then it's a faulty keyswitch.

I am going with key ignition switch on this one,
99s had a recall and the replaced switches died too!
Your car may suffer the same prob,
also several keys on the keyring is damaging to the switch

Techroline is fine stuff when used at correct does- if the can says treat 8 to 25 gallons- 8 is the cleaning dose you need
If there was something bad in the system- cleaner will loosen it and shove it thru- some cars may run off a little,,just means your investment was wise~

Many of us use Seafoam in the gas and do the intake manifold direct at the main vac port- supercleans the valves and pistons, resulting in better performance and mileage

I believe it is the Key Switch as well. I had the same problem and I had to hold the key in the start position after it started to keep the engine running, without burning out the starter.

Or it can also be the Igniter Module. It could be going bad.

Thanks for the advice. The reason I don't think it is the key switch is the ONLY times this has ever happened to me were the last two times I had fuel system cleaner in the gas tank. I put the Techron in on a nearly empty tank and fill it all the way up. I might be done using a fuel system cleaner.

^ Pull your plugs and take a look at the tips. I'm guessing they're going to be very white, haha.
