Problem Galore: car sometimes crank too long before it starts
#3
how do the spark plugs look- how many miles on them?
And the air filter to the engine?
the distributor cap and rotor condition
The battery condition- does it crank slow- is that why its hard to start?
battery cables?
A parts store can test those for you for free- starter battery alternator

black smoke, pungent black smoke. sometimes it cranks starts and stops, then other times it starts without any issues. battery, alternator and starter are all new. I'll probably see a mechanic tommorow, but i wanted to get some idea what's going on with the car.

are you pumping the gas pedal or leaving it alone- whatever your owner book calls for in the current weather?
What made you replace all those parts- chasing symptoms?

I think I've found the problem! A friend suggested i check for clogged fuel injectors if i ever let my gas tank run low. Come to think of it the first time this problem started was when my gas was very low, in fact the lowest I"ve ever seen. on refill, i had to put 16 gallons compared to about 14gallons when my light comes on. I've been addingfuel injector cleaners in my gas tank these days and the problem is almost gone. I'll probably do a real fuel injection cleaning when i have the time
