Parts that fit and parts that do not...

Hi moderators..

Would it be possible to start a list somewhere of all the aftermarket parts that fit without modifications, with modifications, the year and style of the car the part would fit, etc. I think everybody who replaced something on his/her car could contribute to this list, and the list could be made available on this website, Since i am planning to keep my 2.5 for a while longer it would be nice to have a definitive source to look up. The shocks were one thing but i know other parts will start falling off any day now

good idea, something similar to the REVIEW section at the rx7 forum. THey have a section where everyone leaves their .02 about a mod they've done. makes things simple and clear for new members, a great service. wink wink Tim wink wink

OK... I'll start the ball rolling...

I've only done two things to my 97 3.2TL (only had it a couple of months):

1. Stripped off the paint from the shifter plate using Polystrippa. Reveals chrome shift plate, and looks MUCH better.

2. Installed a drop-in K&N OEM shaped air filter. K&N part # 33-2089. Very slight improvement in power (almost un-noticeable), BUT approximately 3 miles per gallon improvement in fuel economy (so far - only one tank used after the replacement). Even without the improvements, it's a one-time cost of about 609 bucks CDN, compared to 45 bucks each time for a paper filter.

Do you know if that air filter part number will be the same as a 98' TL?

Air filters

I did some research at FRAAM's web site...

3.2TLs

- 95 Legend uses the same air filter as the 96, 97 and 98 3.2TL.

- FRAM filter for a 95 Legend is CA7224.
- K&N filter for a 95 Legend is part #33-2089. This is the one I installed in my 97 3.2tl, and it fits beautifully. Looks like it will work just as well in the 96 and 98, based on FRAM's web site.

2.5TLs

- 94 Vigor uses the same air filter as the 96, 97 and 98 2.5TL

- FRAM filter for a 94 Vigor is part #CA7284

- There is no K&N filter for the 94 Vigor. I can't find any other vehicle that uses the CA7284 filter, so 2.5TL owners may be out of luck

97 3.2TL

1. Struts: Front Koni 8041's with external damping fits, but must used original perch for the springs; Rear Koni 8041's with external damping fits with no problem

2. Eibach Prokits fit with no problem

3. K&N Filter for Honda Accord fits with no problem

4. Suspension Techniques sway bars as listed on some sites to fit 97's do not fit. Don't order them. So far, there are no aftermarket sway bars for our TLs. I got mine custom make.

5. Honda Civic strut brace (bar only with bent ends) fit with custom made brackets.

6. Motegi M7 18x7.5x45 offset and 225x40 Pirelli P7000 fit, except rear fender lip rubber trim has to be removed and 1/4" of lip ground off (or rolled). Also plastic bumper tab has to be trimmed.

7. Alignment Kit required for front if Eibachs installed on Konis. Rear has enough shim adjustment.

I have no idea where in 'Frisco you should look, because we're not even in the same country.

HOWEVER, you should be able to pick one up at almost any auto parts store. Even the discount stores here in Saskatoon carry K&Ns, so you shouldn't have a problem.

My new tokico shocks were installed today without incident. The car ia about 1/2" lower using the stock springs. Ride is pleasant.

Thanks everybody. I probably be back when the next thing falls off that is way too expensive from the dealer.

Update: I just checked K&N's web site, and they list 96-98 2.5TLs now. The part number for the OEM drop-in filter is 33-2267...

P.S. I seem to enjoy rehashing really really old threads...

As for Mods, The only thing I've done so far is install the trunk net. Very convienent if you don't like stuff flying around your trunk. Can get the OEM net on ebay for less than $20 shipped, and it comes with easy to follow instructions.

Part # 08L96-SW5-200

There aren't any anymore... Well, besides the Ground Controls which are made by Eibach. Those are $369.99 for a set.
