oil leak

ok my car has a oil leak . it isnt bad and i have no idea where its at because i dont know much about cars like all you guys . never had the time to chekc and theres no point of me chekcing because i wouldnt know what the part wuold be called anyways. my brother took the car to the shop and asked for a quote on a fix and they said it was 1500 and he isnt exactly the smart type and didnt ask where the leak is at .

i pour about a quart of oil in about every 2-3 weeks and was just wondering since theres fresh oil in there all the time ... how long does it take for a oil filter to go bad? any ideas where the leak is from would also be nice and if the quote is accurate

I'd still stick to doing your regular oil and filter changes...

i will be able to take my car to the shop at school as soon as my teacher moves the boats out of the garage (dont know when) and he will take a look and see where the leak is for me .

i basically go through about 3 extra quarts of motor oil due to the leak, pouring in new oil when there isnt enough.

hopefully will get it fixed soon

That's a pretty massive oil leak if that's how much oil you're putting in. Make sure the oil filter is on correctly and that the drain plug is tight.

I've been leaking oil out of my rear main seal on the TL for years, but nowhere near that amount.

it doesnt make tht big of a difference. 5w-30 oil isnt as thikc as 10w-30 so it would leak faster
