oil filter

our oil filters are so expensive when compared to all other cars.
dealer wants $14.44
pep boys wants $9.89 for fram
autozone wants $7.49 for fram and the same for STP brand(never would buy)

i mean its not they are totally outrageous like say a ferrari enzo (oil change is $989.00 at F.C. Kerbeck here in jersey) but i guess since they have a special size thats to blame

also what oil do you guys use? what weight?

i just bought max life 5-30 since it was on sale and quaker state 5-30.
i used to be a pennzoil man but until i realized that you can go to pep boys and get their house brand for half the price and its made by pennzoil.
also jiffy lube uses recycled pennzoil so dont go their, your asking for problems.

im just pissed because i just spent $44. at auto zone for oil, filter, and brake fluid & wiper blades for my moms car.

I spend $19.95 at the local Honda dealership for an oil change.

That includes free car wash, vaccuum, air freshener and a mint.

Lucky bastard... you are still w/in warrenty or whatever huh... at 170,000 miles i can't even go to the stealership to get anything w/o paying over $100...

About the oil change... if i do it myself... i spend about 6x2.59 (chevron oil) = $15.54 + tax... for the oil... about 10 bucks for the filter and 20 bucks for the air filter(not anymore since i got the WR)... so its a total of about $40 to $50 bucks...

If i get it done... which is cool because they do the oil change, change the 2 filters, tire pressure, windsheild washer fluid, check the coolant (not topped off) flushed if requested for about 10 to 20 bucks more apart from the price... it comes out to be about $45 to $50 bucks not adding in the flush... and apart from that a free carwash inside and out w/ the vacuum thingy and air freshners...
and if you want to know where i get this... Chevron Splash Car Wash on Abbott St Salinas CA they do your tranny fluid too for about $80 bucks...

I use Mobil 5w-30 motor oil and just a fram filter so total is like $16.50. But all the stuff I bought just to change my oil the very first time is soo much more.

Wiper blades are expensive i spent like 32 bucks for both blades. Bosch Micro Edge

I don't know how you can get Mobil 1 and a Fram filter for about $17. The cheapest Mobil 1 I could find was $20 at Wal-Mart plus a Purolator filter for $6.

I have found that Honda wipers are way better than Bosch blades. For $5 per blade refill that lasts about a year and a half, it's a way better deal than Bosch that lasts about the same time.

"genuine honda oil".....hmmmmm....im sure their outsourcing it from somewhere.

As far as I'm concerned...I pay $38 for oil change...5w30 maxlife...yeah i know thats a crap load to pay..i do my own oil change on my accord, but haven't done on the acura for two reasons....the tales of stripping oil bolts and lack of clearnce around the oil filter. Acura delaer did an oil change for me recently...used "Durablend"?

Is synthetic worth it or should I stick with maxlife (mine has 120K)

At 120k, you should just stick with what you're using. If you use synthetic, the detergent in the oil may break up the stuff and may cause oil leaks.

Castrol makes a 5W20 Syntec Blend that I get at Walmart. That's the weight my book calls for. If your Walmart doesn't have it, they can get it. For you guys using Valvoline MaxLife, go buy the NAPA brand. It's the same stuff, just ask anyone that works there. I call on the distributor and it really is Valvoline from Ashland Oil Co. As far as filters, aside from the more expensive Mobile 1 and K&N (which I've read are made by the same people) the next best choice is the Puralater Pure One. This comes from independent research which you can probably find on the web.

Oil and Filter

5W-30 as recommended.

Filters, I use Purolator, $6.95 @ Discount Auto parts, if you are lucky, you will have $1.00 off coupon.

Oil, Pep Boys have tons of rebates going on all the time. Almost get them for a buck per Quart.

Or go to your Wholesale club and get it for $1.00 per Quart, it has gone up because of the oil preice increase, but still the cheapest you can get, without rebates and crap.

Stock up on Oil and Filters, saves you time and money.

Been using Mobil 1 5w30 since I got the car at 125000 KM's, and I just passed 200000 on friday. :'( . I buy the oil and FRAM filter at Walmart it usually costs me about $40, then I either change it myself at my friend's shop or have him do it, either way I usually just grab a 12 of beer to pay for it.

I use Valvoline Max Life Synthetic 5W-30 along with Honda oil filters. You can get filters for less than $5 each if you buy them in bulk. Altogether, each oil change is about $15 (excl. labor since I do it myself.)

What's the part number for the filters you get? How much does a case of 12 normally cost you? Have you ever tried using oem nsx filters? Because I know of people who own legends using it. Oh and most importantly do you have a 2.5 or 3.2

How often do you change your oil when using Mobil 1?

I just did my first oil change on my TL. 5 quarts valvoline max-life @ $2.89 and fram oil filter @ $5.48. They wanted 60 bucks to do it at the dealership. Only takes 5 min to do so i did it myself.

You can give Andy a call at A and H Motorsports and he will send you what you need. Be sure to get the filter wrench and some washers too. I have a '98 3.2 and didn't know that you could use NSX filters. I imagine that those are pretty expensive!

I change my own oil on my 3.2; it's not a big deal. The oil filter is on the bottom of the engine and it is a bit of a pain to get off. I pay about $7 for the filter (Fram 8212) and about $8 for Castrol (I use 5W30). Autozone takes the waste oil, by the way. I've had my 3.2 for about 130k miles.
