muffler problems
so i have a hole in the s-pipe leading into my exhaust. makes my car sound like one of these lil civics racing by, and i hate it. thought it would be a two minute fix but everywere i called is telling me its gonna be about two weeks for the part an about $500. this is only the tail end pipe, not even from the cat. the dealership told me 570 for the parts an if i wanted them to do it, another 120. this just seems way to expensive for what seems like a simple piece, for god sakes, im getting my timing belt done for $450 (my uncles neighbor works for acura), so i have him checking on the part for me now, but he hasnt gotten back to me yet, guess im just getting impatient but that ricey muffler sound is killin me. any info on or spots i could order the pipe an muffler from would be appreciated.
Just go to a good exhaust shop and have them custom make you a pipe and install amuffler. If you like quiet go with RS*R or Remus, they are QUIET performance mufflers. SHould be able to get that done for less than the cost the dealer wants.
I ordered a brand new Bosal catback section (two pipes) when I got my TL. Can't remember where but autopartswarehouse.com has the intermediate pipe for $79 and the muffler section for $170. Another $5 or so for gaskets or gasket-sealant. I had to pay a Midas to grind the bolts off for me but otherwise, installation is an easy self-job (just requires a couple wrenches and some ramps) and you can be good as new for about $250.
NOTE: the only thing I didn't get was the finishing tips. Could only find them through a dealer site and they were like $100 or something crazy. I settled for the grape-shooter look

Just found a better site for the little parts (don't get the pipes/muffler here)

Part # 16 and #17 are the gaskets you need: about $12.
Part # 18 are the finishing tips: $35
The various bolts you can just get at any hardware store that carries stainless steel Grade 8 bolts/nuts. A tip I got: spray the bolts with high-temp paint after they're installed, as further insurance against their crudding over.
Bottom line: you can do this yourself for about $300 with full OEM stuff. Or, you can go the muffler shop "fit me up a pipe, Cletus" approach but, if you need a muffler, that could still run you $200-300 as well.

get some of that sealant stuff from autozone, or the bandage stuff and you should be able to patch it up if the hole is small.
