low idle spead?

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this problem. I pull up to a stop sign that on a slight incline and apply the breaks. When it's clear to make my right turn, I realize the gas pedal is unresponsive because the car engine had already shut off. The engine is so quiet to begin with that I didn't even realize it.

Any ideas? Is my idle speed too low maybe?

Thanks! I can't believe I misspelled the word "speed" on my first post. How shameful...

I just bought the car used, and so I'm not sure the last time it had a tune up. But it drives like a dream. Shifts very smoothly. I can hardly hear the engine it's so quiet.

It idles between 350-500. I tried over and over to duplicate the issue at the same intersection and on steeper hills but the engine never cut out on me again.

I think idling speed should be 750. Definitely something to look into.

I believe idle speed on the 3.2 is supposed to be 640 or 650 from the factory. It says on the inside on your hood, if you still have the stickers in there. Maybe just changing your oil, throttle body, and making sure there's nothing restricting the flow of air into you engine would help..

I have been having a similar problem for the last several months. Often times during the day when I am driving, I will come to a stop. The idle will then start to become irratic and then often will shut down the engine. This happens quite frequently. My mechanic looked at the idle control valve and said it looked clean. If anyone has a clue to this I would appreciate your help.

Low idle speed is caused by lack of air from the throttle plate and/or the idle air control valve (IACV). The throttle plate (both sides) and throttle bore around the plate should be cleaned w/ throttle body cleaner. The IACV should be cleaned and checked for function (12V should open the valve).

good luck

Cleaning the throttle plates and bore cured the problem for me. Car idles perfectly smooth again. Thanks TexasHonda
