Keyless FOB Remote ...whatever you call it

Folks
I dropped my fob today and the unlock button has stopped working. I opened it up and looked around and found out that the buttons hit small buttons on the circuit board. The Unlock button has come undone (detached) from the circuit board so I guess it's as good as retired.

I searched and one of the options seems to be to buy a replacement keyfob from ebay and then program it. I searched and some are available at around $90.

My question is - for folks who might have gone this route - is this worth it or am I better off getting an aftermarket remote installed?

Another question - is there a place I can get these for cheaper?

Better to get an aftermarket alarm. Trust me, the factory one sucks so bad, it can only be called a keyless entry system, not an alarm.

Clifford Matrix 10.5 when it was the top of the line, then switched out to a Matrix 3.5 because I missed the old remote. Alarm was a gift.

Thanks for the response guys. Some more questions...
- What will it take to put an aftermarket alarm in? Is it a relatively simple / non intrusive process or do they need to take the car apart to put one in?
- Will the stock blinker on the driver side door still keep functioning or will that be a dead indicator after the alarm replacement?
- Will this have any effect on the radio security? Even that has a blinking light? Is the radio anyway connected to the car alarm system?

Stock blinker will still function since that comes on when the doors are locked. For our cars, it usually takes around 3 hours for a good install (depending on what features you are getting) and yes, they tear the driver-side floor, part of that area's dash and the steering column apart for installation. Radio has nothing to do with the security system, since the only thing it has is a lockout code after power has been cut.

Can the OEM fobs be reprogrammed? My car ('97 3.2) came with 3 of them and i could send you one if it could be made to work on your car.

anyone know if they are re-programmable?

Hey - that's MIGHTYYYYYYYYYYY nice of you. I am really not interested in getting my car torn up for installation of an alarm. As you can see (https://acurazine.com/forums/religion-politics-18/favor-declining-dollar-161878/), I like keeping it as stock as possible.

I am sure they can be programmed. I searched and here are the instructions - https://acurazine.com/forums/archive...p/t-84352.html

Based on my searches, the only thing I need to be sure of is that the FCC# (it's imprinted on the back of the FOB) should be KOBUTA1T. As long as that is the FCC# on the FOB, I should be able to program it.

Lemme know. PM me.

AND THANKS AGAIN. If this goes through I'll be mighty grateful to you.

Arsh, all the parts they remove pops right back into place! the only way you can tell I have an alarm is the LED drilled into the steering column. You can even have that left out! Please don't stay with the stock security system!!

I don't know why but I really don't trust these installers. I for some reason think they are going to tear open the car and create more problems in the long run (left out screws/creaks/rattles).

I would have gone with that option but Hoser here has graciously offered to send me a spare FOB he has. I'll try and make that work first. If that works, I'll be up and about without anybody touching anything in my car.

If that doesn't go well, I will certainly go the route of getting another alarm installed.

Thanks so much for the honest and well meant advice...

THANKS SO MUCH ....its folks like you who make this forum the great place it is.

it is really hard to find a good installer nowadays... i used to do car audio on the side and have seen my fair share of hack jobs... that is why i just tend to do everything myself... too many of these place don't crimp the connections all the way causing things to rattle loose over time... personally i am a solder+heat shrink guy... but don't get me wrong, if u want a good job, expect to pay a fair amount of money... and Art is right, for a decent job it should take 3hrs or so...

i have a Crimestopper alarm in my car for 7 yrs now... still works like the first day i installed it... got it for under $100 on ebay... installed the autostarter, and trunk release... i'm thinking about upgrading it to the 2-way pager but can use the money for other stuff right now..

while we're on the subject . . .

I'm interested in buying a remote starter and new keyless entry system because even after replacing the batteries in my remote it only work from about 15 feet away from the car, which is fine but it'd be nice if it were a greater range and had more functions ('roll up windows/close sunroof' for when you're at work and a freak storm shows up? yeah that'd be handy)

Anyway, I'm looking at one of these.
Scytek 5000RS-2W, remote starting capable, 2-way LCD pager type fob.

Do any of you guys have experience with this particular brand/model of remote? Yes I do understand that the quality isn't the highest.

Looks like the same half-working garbage I saw installed on an Integra... Remote didn't work sometimes. Spend the extra money, you won't regret it.

I had to do some troubleshooting and searching when I got my car. These little remotes do get pretty expensive. I went with this route...

http://www.keylessride.com.

They have new ones for around 60.. and refurbished ones (if dont mind a few scuffs) for about 30. All remotes come with crystal clear instructions on how to program them. You should definitely check them out!

I think you can also get them from the dealer(stealership) but its also hella expensive.

Good luck!

IT WORKED......................I have a fob that works and I am glad I did not have to get my car all torn up to get an aftermarket alarm installed...I am so happy and so thankful to hoser here who so graciously mailed (nicely packed in a padded envelope) me an extra fob he had....THANK YOU SO MUCH HOSER>>>>URE DA MAN.........

For folks who might read this thread later to solve a similar problem - I followed instructions laid out here - https://acurazine.com/forums/archive...p/t-84352.html

As one of the posts on that thread states...I did have to go 'jet li on the mofo' to put it into the programming mode.

My keyless remote just broke, too. I guess that's not too terrible; after all it is ~ 10 years old.... THANKS SO MUCH for the keylessride link--I am going to go that route if I can't find one at a decent price on eBay or something similar.

I see P/N 72147-SZ5-A01, "transmitter assembly", on DelRay Acura's website. Does anyone know if this is the keyless transmitter? It is reasonably priced; $50.79. I would rather get an OEM one even though the in-car unit is not all that great.

That is the keyless transmitter. I bought it for the same price from Delray Acura last August and reprogrammed it. It is very reasonable for 50 bucks.
