Key question...

Alright, I made duplicates of my only key that I got from the dealership. I had them duplicated at Home Depot and only one side works for both of the duplicates. Is that normal? Is the original key protected somehow so only one side of the duplicate works...or maybe they just fuked it up.

Oh yeah, and why can't I lock my glove compartment? Is there suppose to be a seperate key for it? The key doesn't seem to fit all the way in.

It sounds like one side of your key was worn out. So when they copied your original key it copied the worn parts also. You could go to an Acura dealership and have them cut you a brand new key from your vin....But who knows how much that cost?

They probably didn't cut it close enough then. If it doesn't work can't you just go back in and ask them to cut you a new one? Sometimes those machines screw up.

Yeah they said that I can bring it back in if it doesn't work. Just a hassle.

Are you sure the duplicated the MASTER key?

Sounds to me its not quite as perfect as it should be and its just like a VALET key now, which will only work on the ignition and exterior door locks.

No, what he means is that if he sticks the key in one way, it will start the car. If he pulls it out and flips it over, it will not start the car.

I had the same problem getting my key copied, 4 keys, 3 different places, and every key has this problem.

I think someone else got it right, the machine just doesn't get close enough, and with the key being worn out, you don't get exactly what you want. For just a spare to keep in your wallet though, it works fine.

Also, either the glove box lock is broken, but more then likely, it is the valet key. Will the key that doesn't work in the glovebox work in the passthrew or on the trunk release switch? If it only works on locks/ignition, then it is a valet key, if it works everywhere, its a master.

you are correct...and my key works for the gas tank/trunk lock. So it's a master key and my glovebox is broken? Is there a fix?

I had to get one cut last year for my Dad's '02 T-Bird, but the dealer gave it to me for free (make a long story short, my brother had just passed away and we were about to go down to the hopsital to meet my mom when my dad mysteriously locked keys in running car, never happened before, hasn't happened since.... still find that spooky to this day, anyways, explained this to the Ford service guy as until he heard that he wasn't really in a rush to help , but I couldn't exactly wait... and he ended up just giving it to me, very nice), but I am pretty sure they usually charge like $50 or something like that.

WALMART is your friend. They got it right the first time...no troubles. cost about a dollar! BTW, original acura key wasn't the one that came with car, it was a newer one that was only abut a year old. So maybe trouble is stemming from the fact theat you key is worn and machine isn't able to cut as welll due to this.
