Ignition Switch Install write -up with Pics.

So I tackled this today. $66 at Autozone. Disconnect the Batter FIRST! Took off the column covers before hand to check continuity between the 2 wires. I jumped the black and yellow wire to the white wire to still be able to use the car while the switch was bad.

Unplug existing wire harness and find the screws, Remove them.

Had to plug in to start and unplug to shut off.


I then unscrewed the 3 phillips head screws

Great DIY. How did you know the Sw was bad? What are the symptoms?

Unfortunately this did not solve my problem. I replaced my switch with one from Advanced Auto and it still cut off while I was driving.

Nice post and pics. Too bad your problem remains. What are symptoms?

When ignition switch fails, you may notice the Check Engine and Alt lights don't come on w/ keyswitch in On position. Car may fail to start or may stop while driving.

One point that may affect others. The keyswitch retaining screws may be security bolts w/ round, smooth heads to prevent easy access to the switch by car thief. These are easily removed however w/ a small sharp punch or cold chisel applied edgeways to loosen the bolt. They are not tight and easily turn w/ fingers once loosened.

No my problem persists. I created my own thread since this thread is more for instruction than trouble shooting.
