HID question.. can anyone help me plz!

what would happen if i put a 20 amp fuse.. for the headlights when it uses only 15..... i have an HID system...and my problem is that when i turn it off... and if i turn it back on within 30 seconds... the left side would flicker but not light up.. but the right side does..... anyone know what could be the problem... any feedback would be highly appreciated... thanks alot!

hey from watt i know. the fuse wattage is meant for the max current allowed. meaning that if u have a 15amp fuse.. once it feels 15.3 or 16 amps going through, it will burn. saving the device the current is going to.. now if the HID lights take 30amps, and u put 30 or more fuse, it might not even be doing nothing since a shortage is going to go right through the fuse and go to the device. that problem with your HID;s might be wiring or electrical issue. is this aftermarket? original? let us know. thanks..

Make SURE you have a good ground. I would also recommend using a relay to power them up instead of direct power from the old headlight harness. This will help with the current as it will be coming directly from the battery. This LASO means you will have to put in a fuse from the battery to the relay. I would think a 20 or 25 amp fuse would be good. Problem you may be having is that the factory wiring isn't sufficent to power the HID ballast, running from the battery using the old harness wire as the trigger for the relay should help out!! (mine are hooked up directly right now, and work, but when I get half an hour to fix them I will be putting in some relays.)

Are they stock HIDs? I have seen this a few times and fixed all of them by replacing the wiring for the car to lower gauge wires and getting the juice via a relay from the battery NOT stock wiring. Keep in mind that when I saw this happen, it was to ppl that installed aftermarket HIDs.

Oh btw, increasing the fuse will not do anything because it just decreases the chances of it blowing not increasing the current flow. If it had already exceeded the 15A, it would of blown.

I totally agree, but 15A fuse for each ballast OR 30A combined depending on how you draw the power. A friend killed his oem wiring because he hooked it up inline after about 2 years.

Give me a PM if u need help, i did nydesi80's and cubanlinx on the forum and others outside.

Boarder, they look SWEET in our rides! Get the odd high beam flash from ppl, but it's really not much worse than an OEM BMW or M-B. Lenses in our cars focus pretty well, my brother even said I was behind him one day and it just looked like a bimmer coming up on him, wasn't too bright really at all!! VERY happy with that freebie that I got from a friend.

Once you put HIDs on, you'll never go back.

Used to use them all the time....gotta get those slowpokes outta the fast lane somehow!! HAHA! Good idea though, maybe I'll rewire the fogs to the high beam switch....Hmmmm.... Flash would be cool, or could leave the fogs on by turning on the high's.... That just might work!

Hids take a little bit to charge to get the color but flashing is less than the time it takes.

You got an awsome buy.... people here in miami... have a high.. theft % on maximas.. being the easiest. But they get the bulb plus the transformer piece.. the charger for the lights. so basically watt they do get theset things and just cut the wirte that are going to the factory power and ground. so all you had to do was get your current power and ground. strip them. attach the HID ones, and protect them good with elect... tape. and there you.. this was done in my MAzda 626 and now these lights were taken off and gone into a Mazda 6. But never had a problem. Now the only thing you have to think about.. these lights you got were from a crashed car. did it effect them in any way with the crash? or also.. you need to custom make your own harnest. all cars just dont sit right in the harnest. by harnest i mean, the silver round layer, look like alluminum round thing.. that is made for your headlight, and all you ahve to do is slide it inside and it will sit just perfect.. may yours are just being held up and moving around. and these lights are sensible... so have to look into these things....
