Ghost Emergency brake light

Guys, I have a problem,

Starting this week my emergency brake light has been coming on , on it's own, without use of the actual brake, merely while I'm driving down the road.

Now not to drone on this small annoyance, but due to the e-brake light being on, while in motion, my ABS malfunction light also comes on.

Now what I'd like to know, is this a problem that needs to be fixed quickly, or like a said, is it just a small annoyance?

After having said that, does anyone know a simple fix for this problem?
Or would anyone know the cause to this problem, incase i need to figure it out myself?

I have a '96 TL, besides this everything is running tip top shape...

,Thanks

Check your brake fluid. It is most likely low.

Any time the ABS and Brake light come on it's something you need to get checked. It's annoying that they do come on but's it on for a reason.

I agree with Mr.Steve 1st check your brake fluid level.

You might also want to see how much brake pad is left on your rear brakes. I had the same thing, but only when I accelerated. As soon as I got some new rear pads, the problem was solved.

Same here. My light came on and I got my brakes checked out. Turned out my brake pades were worn down to 5%!!! I got my pads replaced and the light hasn't come on improperly since.

The light serves 2 purposes: to indicate when the parking brake is applied, and to indicate a possible brake problem.

Have the same problem. That light, as was stated earlier, serves two purposes, e-brake and brake fluid level. Mine kept coming on, had a problem with a leaking caliper. Fixed that, topped everything off and still got the light time to time. Turns out my floater in the Brake booster keeps getting stuck now! FLuid level is fine, take the cap off the reservoir and put it back and everything is good. Going to get a new cap once the motor swap is done.

The break light can come on when your pads are low. this is because the pistons in the calipers sit out further to allow the pads to touch the rotors. This means there is more fluid in the caliper and less in the reservoir. Typically though as long as the reservoir is topped up properly, this won't happen. you should rely on the wear squeelers on the oads instead of this for when to change your brakes. (better yet physically check the pads every once in a while!!)

Thanks guys appreciate all the help, sorry it was so simple, I thought I had a prob with my ABS or something which would be fauked up!

I topped off my break fluid which was slightly above the MIN line,

everything's fine, E-brake light hasn't come back on, hence the ABS malfunction light hasn't come back on.

problem solved.

THanks
