Getting Giddy for new motor!!!

OK guys, just got off the phone with my buddy. They FINALLY cracked the motor apart last night, got ALL the porting done (he gasket matched the intake and exhaust ports and the intake itself!!) Bid on a rad today on E-bay (none of y'all better outbid me as I am currently the only bidder!! :P) I have to go order a few more gaskets and o-rings and other shit at lunch. SOOO with the extra porting he did and after speaking with an Acura tech who is into the performance side of things, we figure motor should be close to 300 HP once i finally order the Bayou chip and type II ecu...... HOLY CRAP!!!! I am ECSTATIC over here. I know this is probably a BIT over what it will acutally end up being, but still, it's going to be closer than we thought originally. I will take pics of the heads and intake at lunch and post them up on my cardomain site.

That's at the motor. at 20% drivetrain loss, should work out to about 240 at the wheels.

Its fun enough having 205ish HP at the wheels...

The 240 or so that Cornflake is hoping for will be sick.

240 WHP is probably a bit optimistic, but if I end up close to 220 or so I will be happy.

220 is definitely possible and even THAT will be great.

I might have to do some port and polishing soon

I dunno dude, the guys on the legend forum are shooting me down!!! They all claim UNDER 200 WHP with everything I have minus the porting. But with everything else I've done on my cars, I still think I should be able to hit 220 at least. Heck, I made 139.5 WHP on my GS Integra with header, 2.5 " cat back exhaust, intake, msd coil, underdrive pulleys timing WAYY advanced and adj fuel pressure regulator ...no porting or chip. Only thing TL won't have is the ignition (but coil packs already, so pretty good....) and the underdrive, but that usually only frees up 2-3 hp. I WILL be getting adj. fuel presss. reg. on the tl too. Chip does same as adv. timing a little.... so we'll see.

is that dynoe proven Ken? I'm ust askin cause I want to put it to the Legend guys to be honest, their MANUAL cars only get 190-200.....auto's lose soo much more through the drivetrain that I would expect sooo much less!!! Well prove the point though when I get it all done.

Dyno proven

I've seen a few other autos get the same.

And thats why I want a 6 speed.. the results would be sick!

ooooo... Port and Polished... that looks awsome...

BTW: I'd like to see the 6 speed done to both of your cars... that'd be awsome... but guess $$$ and Time is what is required... I bet the future holds someone with that conversion... Like that Rear Wheel Drive Civic with a 3.2 in it...

I have a few options in terms of $$$ right now:

A) Trade in '97 TL. Buy a Honda Ridgeline, small boat and the rest towards a house

B) Trade in '97 TL. Buy a 2006 Acura RL (very little money left towards a house)

C) Buy a 2004 RL, keep it auto but with 3.5 engine and Type II heads. Suspension kit and steering rack from a 1st gen TL. Would make it relatively fun to drive yet VERY luxurious.

D) Keep '97 TL, 6 speed swap and possibly even the 3.5 block from a C35 RL. (Cheapest option, lets me put the most $$$ towards a house)

Thats my problem. There are family considerations to be made, so I might hold off until I get officially attached to my ball and chain

I've been considering a 6 speed swap, BUT am wondering whether sucvh a thing would be "out of character" with what our TL's are about. Especially first gens. If I want a thrilling drive, I usually take my accord coupe out for a spin, and make the most of every turn - this car corners bone stock like its on rails. The TL on the other hand, I take out for a relaxing drive, that can also be very invogarting on the open road, where at WOT the car just surges forward, and you marvel at how serene everything is, even as you delve into triple digits.

Sorry for the rambling, but what i was wondering was - would fitting a 6 speed take away from the luxury/relaxing aspect of the car. I mean with a 6 speed, the shifts are never going to be slushbox smooth, and there's some driver effort invloved in the ride. I dunno, it just seems like a 6 speed MIght not beloing in a 1G TL. What are your alls opinions on this - espcially Ken and Cornflake.

Its all up to what you want in a car. The Legends with a 6 speed were luxurious driver's cars. Much like a BMW 540 with a 6 speed is today.

I personally love touring cars, (540i BMW has always been a drem car of mine). I think the TL is very similar to a BMW 5 series, it's just missing one option, the manual tranny. The car has a great suspension, that with once I get my springs on I am SURE is going to handle very nicely, and a smooth, actually somewhat torquey V6. perfect combination for a sport tourer. I just want to add soemthing Honda forgot to offerm a tranny than can match the suspension and engine. I know the TL would give a 530 a run for the money, and I don't think it would be that far behind a 540 (with a few mods of course) with a 6 spd. I'm hoping to prove that theory next winter.

Well Cornflake it would appear that you are a king on this board....We should be assembling your motor sometime this week if all goes well....So are you the first TL out there with ported heads, intake and exhaust manifolds???I would have liked to do a full out job on the heads but rebuilding the heads were out of the budget...

I know dude, but this project's already breaking the bank (as you well know!). We will definately be doing a full porting job on the heads when we put them onto an RL block and throw a 6 spd tranny on it.... just lemme get this part done first....maybe I'll win the lottery and can actually do the rest of what I want to !!!
