Gasket Sealant

Is it ok to use gasket sealant with the OEM gasket, the paper type, for tranny? There seems to be small leak when I changed the tranny filter and I ma not sure what to do now.

Do what Ford warranty service does: Copper spray, gasket, copper spray. Should be ok...

~Cheers~

good to know that I am not the only one with this problem.

I will make sure tomorrow that the upper flange of the tranny has no left over old gasket, I will scrape it out all the way. I will clean both tranny pan and upper flange with brake cleaner.
than I will apply gasket sealant on the tranny pan than put the gasket and apply sealant on the top part of the gasket.
Let me know if this sounds right.

I was about to say brake cleaner when I read "scrape away," hehe. You've got it down, m8.

ok, I was able to stop the tranny pan leak by sealing the gaskets' both side with Gasket Sealant.

So, anyone planning to change the tranny filter, please use Gasket sealant with your new gasket, otherwise IT WILL LEAK.

Car shift very smooth now and there is a diference.

Thanks KaMLuNg for the nice DIY write up.

Mine is a 2.5 TL, how much fluid did you add?
If the car is not driven, should the dip stick register any fluid? Mine does not register any even after adding 3 qts.

on a 2.5 it should be 3 quarts... you are supposed to check the trany fluid after you drive it otherwise you will not be able to get the correct reading off the dipstick...
