Exterior paint forming white "cloud"

On the roof of my car, I am forming a white "cloud" if you will. My car is black so this white cloud is really bugging me. I guess it is from months of not washing/waxing. I can already see it forming on my hood but it hasn't turned white yet.

Is there a way of getting rid of this, aside from buffing out the whole car and getting a new paint job?

Clear coat failure... the only way to fix it correctly is to do what you said.

I had the same issue.
with 272k on the clock, I went the Maaco route. Paid $250.00+$100.00 for clear coat. Car looks nice and I hope that this paint will last another year or two.
The paint may outlast the car.
I am happy if I can get another 2 years out of the tranny and the engine.

I am the first owner of the car. So the TL has done right by me so far.

I had somewhat of the same issue and I used Meguair's Ultimate Compound and some microfiber pads. It take a lot of time but it is worth it. I spent about 3 hours on some of the car and it looks brand new again.

thats good that the cloud isnt completely white yet. If it was totally white your paint would be eaten up. A DIY for this is most likely buying some compound and microfibers like TLin said. I have a cloud maybe like yours on my trunk. Ive tried rubbing & polishing compound and no luck, it just made the cloud not too noticeable and still shiny.

If this is what it takes, I may just do it... I just have to focus on the roof area so maybe less than 3 hrs.?

TLin401: I masturbate with my left hand and my right hand needs a little beefing up so that my arms can look proportional. This would be a great opportunity.

Main: I have "beau coup" family from there. A few friends from there too but they're now in Houston.
