Engine runs after shut off ?

I recently bought a 97 Acura Tl and have fallen in love with acuras in general sense.

When I bought it I checked carfax to verify its history and found its been well maintained oil changes sense its purchase every 3 months it has 194,000 miles on it now after owning it for about 6 months i have had no problems at all smooth engine good power etc.

The Problem I am having today though is the MIL or check engine light came on 2 days ago with no change in the driving until this morning the car took 3 times to start, so I thought it may be the stater going bad, and i figured the MIL light was going on do to the egr valve sticking but my car has not been overheating.

I took it to a local honda dealer this morning and they confirmed that the egr valve needs replaced and the radiator hose needs replaced.

my question is that the egr valve controls the car overheating so is it possible the thermostate is broke and it was overheating ? and if so would that effect the car starting up bad or keep running after shut off, is there another issue that would prefvent the engine from shuting off when the egnition is turned off ?

My car has a similar problem last summer. I drove hard with the AC on and after I parked the car I could tell something was wrong. The idle kept jumping and after I turned the ignition off the Motor kept stalling. I took it to my shop and the guy told me the radiator fans wern't running properly. So I left the car with him and he changed the radiatior switch..all the belts and some other stuff...billed me $400.

are you sure it wasnt just the radiator fans running and not the engine? i believe if the engine is too hot the fans come on until its cooled down, even if the engine is off.

I always thought the MIL color light was just a reminder to do oil changes.

Thanks for the replies!

I asked around a few mechanic friends today and they all seem to think its a timing issue, The fan has been kicking on after i stop from highway trips but i have had cars that do that before so i figured that was fairly normal.

What was happening with mine was when i shut it of thhe car keept looping with the engine trying to turn over instead of turning off.

The MIL light is the check engine light it comes on when there is a problem with the emisions from what I gather but could be wrong on that today i paid 400 to get that replaced looks like Ill have to pay to get the timing belt done next week :

Thanks
Trav
(anyone had the timiing belt done if so what is a fair price to pay for it ?)
