Ok i figured this out instead of getting the inspire tails and taking apart the existing ones. Get etched glass vynal and lay it overtop of the turn signal area on the taillight all across the bottom. cut it in the croove that is on there for the lense and it looks like a clear lower portion.

you mean putting a clear peice over the amber one makes the tail-light look clear instead of amber?

or does it just look like a clear light with an amber peice inside it...yeah thats prolly it Im a dumbas

The vynal costs 4-7$, you put it on the outside of the taillight overtop of the amper and the reverse light. Simply lay it over, smoothe the bubbles out and cut it with a exacto knife in the groove that follows overtop of the reverse and turn signal.

The etched glass masks the amber behind it and appears from 5-500000000 feet away to be a jdm taillight.

If you dont like the way it looks peel the 4 dollar peice off the outside of your taillight and ditch it.

I dont have a camera, sorry. Just go and get some etched glass transparent vynal and see your self

I have some amber colored vinyl that you can place over your tails to make it an all red look.
I will sell the vinyl if anyone is interested. Its large enough to cover the blinkers on both sides w/ plenty to spare.

where did you get the etched vinyl from ? if not home depot ?

 

Ok to all the experts out there, I have been researching this etch glass vinyl idea -COlT45 came up with.. .
it is not as easy as you claim it to be and any of you first generation TL'rs like me.. beware, this is the cheap alternative, but not the smart one... etch glass in a vinyl form and transparent is not easy to find, I live in a very urban area and all the places I have been to will not sell you their materials for a single job like a car. Best place to buy this if you choose to is on the web. These are professionals, who usually sandblast their etch glass designs to various surfaces. Taillights cannot be sandblasted with etch glass.. they are not glass and will get destroyed in the process..due to excess pressure.
your best most unghetto way of clearing your lights are to simply pay the $$ for the true product, and not the $5.00 way. It will look like a $5.00 job. Don't hurt your ACK with poor improvisations, no offense, COLT 45
When I post my pics of my first generation 3.2, you will understand why you need to take your time with all these aftermarket customizations.

you get the etched glass vinyl from a sign store.... its for windows, so i think you were looking at the wrong stuff

 

tre---what is a sign store? i have been to craft stores and home depot and they didn't have anything. also--have you done it and if you have can you post a picture?

You cherectors are not looking in the right place. I didnt total my taillights to do this. Its not some sandblasted stuff or a tool or a poor alternative.

1. I can not see the light in spending 450 dollars on a pair of taillights to omit a 2 inchx5 inch peice of orange, thats a month rent or a few nights with a hooker.
2. you're going about this the wrong way in the search
3. its not a rare item at a sign shop
4. i live in ohio, its as rural as it gets

Get your yeller pages out and look up signs in the "S" .
fast signs is an example, sign o rama, signman, a sign shop. If you cant figure that out.. go to the barbershop and ask the bastards "where in the hell did you get your stickers made for your front window that says "darnells barbershop" , he will say "oh i got that made down at Marquisha's signs" ok, thanks darnell.. "Walk down two skips to Marquishas signs and walk in by pulling the door handle and then steping over the threashhold. "hello marquisha, i have an odd question but i see you can make signs, would you by any chance have any frosted or etched glass vynal? you know like the clear vynal but its like foggy so you cant see completely through it just shows light through and color." heres her 2 chances of responces 1. yes peter, i have some of that right here what do you need. or 2. i am sorry i dont carry that here. the good thing about this mod is if you dont like it, you peel it off the car. You dont even spend you 450 on taillights, or crack your stocks from melting them apart. And if you like it you got some 450 dollar looking taillights for 4-20 bucks.

Im not meaning to be a jerk or rag on the inspire taillights, they are great. However personally, id save the 450 and try to find some nsx heads or a set of nsx pistons.

I got the glass etched vinyl from the Fast Sign today. When I first saw it, it looks kind of gray more than white. I asked them if they have brighter whiter color, they said they only have one color from AveryGraphics. They gave it free to me in exchange for giving business to them later. When I have it on the taillight, I don't like it cause it's not white enough and the vinyl doesn't look "real", so I took it off.

I also went to Home Depot to check out the light acrylic covers in hoping to replace the yellow piece with them, but their colors are pretty dull.

There're still two other options for me without spending $300-$400 for the lights are painting them all red, or letting them clear. Which one you guys prefer ?
