Crossed Drilled

I did not notice anyone having modded their cars with cross drilled rotors. I am thinking about replacing mine and I am wondering if anyone has and what should I expect. Does it really make a difference? I know that it looks good, but what about braking? Is it really a huge enough difference to spend some change on?

i didn't see anybody on this forum with aftermarket rotors either but if you plan on purchasing some...good luck. they're expensive though, id rather buy a body kit or some wheels with that money.

cross drilled rotors aren't that expensive. they're only about 300 for all four sets. i haven't gotten them yet beause i think our brake system is pretty good. you can also upgrade your brake lines to stainless steel and i hear that improves braking ability also.

Thanks. I didn't think they were that much but maybe they priced some really exspensive ones. So what are the benefits of the steel lines?

ok regular brake lines are made of rubber or whatevers. when you do hard braking, brake fluid is pumped towards the calipers. during these hard brakings, the rubber tubing expands, therefore restricting the amount of brake fluid going to the calipers, thus weaker stopping power. with stainless steal lines, there is no expansion in the hose, and therefore better braking. the cost is around 100 bucks, but i would suggest having some professional people change it cause it's the brakes.

Thanks. It makes sense then to keep the the factories and just change the lines.

Thumbs up

I put cross drilled and slotted on the front of my 3.2 TL and they made a hella difference. I also didn't think they would make that much of difference but i need ed to front pads so i went ahead an got some nice brembo rotors and they really do stop much faster with the slots.

Those are big brake upgrades which usually include larger rotors, new calipers, and such.

X-drilled/slotted rotors are good at disipating heat thus reducing brake fade. X-drilled/slotted rotors should not be more than 3 bills. If you get them, you should also get new pads as well. Axxis Metal Master pads are really good, along with SS brake lines. Be sure that the rotors are CAD plated, and be aware that there is a break in period for the rotors where you should avoid hard braking, this is usually 500 miles or so.

I got some on mine

I got all four with brake pads for 400 and had a shop install them for me. The only thing I did not like about the Brembos I got, was that since they do not make them for our cars, they go out and drill them. I got mine slotted and drilled, and what happened was that as soon as I went to get my car washed, all the rust from the cuts started flowing all over the place and made my rotors look all old and nasty. Solution: took all wheels off bought a can of chrome paint, an painted my calipers, brake pads and problem solved
