ECU UPGRADE

I contacted these people and this is what they replied:
customerservice@powerbyjet.com
Organization: JET Performance Products, Inc.

We do have an ecu upgrade available for your application(96 2.5TL). The ecu upgrade does require that the factory ecu be sent to us for modification. You must purchase the upgrade package before sending the ecu to us for the modification. Suggested retail is $299.00, and the part number is 65001. The ecu upgrades are all done per the application, in other words,
do all the modifications you intend on doing before you get the ecu upgraded. That way the program can be set up for the specific modifications.Hp gains would be dependant on the extent of modifications

That's quite interesting. I may look into that. Anyone know how much HP the chip would add to a stock 2.5 TL?

i think haha98 on this board had his chip modified and he said it wasn't worth it. the TL's computer's are already pretty tuned. if you can i would ask the company for some dyno tests.

it is not really a chip...it is a mod done to the factory ECU located under the passenger seat. you would mail this company your ECU they modify it. then send it back to you, meanwhile your car cannot be driven no computer box to run the engine. i have heard mixed results from doing this mod. most were not favorable. although none of the cars were TL's (RX-7's and 240's for the most part).

Why would someone want to modify the chip then?

to get the most out of the vehicle. the vehicles from the factory are restricted somewhat.....ULEV for example: Ultra Low Emission Vehicle........basically a vehicle with many restrictions in place. what is the first thing many owners modify? the exhaust. compare the aftermarket performance 'pipe with the stock one, what do you notice? ........the performance one is quite small and less restrictive, more power, better mileage. downside? more noise. same goes for intake. bigger intake, more fuel consumed, more noise.................the US has some of the most restrictive vehicle laws in the world. sorry for being kinda wordy....brother Budweiser is visiting t'nite......aloha.........
