Compression ratio!!

Hi guys im a newbie here, just got my 98 2.5 tl last week. I have few questions here: What type of oil is required for this car, example 5w-30, 10w-30 etc? how many quarts should i put in it? Now the fun part Im very interested in fabricating a turbo setup for my tl, I have done few custom setups for mostly for honda. Does any one know what the compression ratio of a 98 2.5 tl is? How big are the stock injectors, what cc's?

5W-30 is recommended. 4.5 quarts should be added including the filter. I believe the compression is around 10.0:1. Not sure about the injectors.

Thumbs up

thanks guys, so that means that I will get a shop to custom make a 2 m.m head gasket that will drop the compression somewhere in the 9's. cool

Compression ratio is 9.6:1 in both motors.

Yeah, what he said about the oil and stuff. So your thinking about a custom head gasket? I unsure about that... I worked in a parts store with a machine shop for three years. After seeing what blown head gaskets, burnt valves, and warped heads look like I cant see why you would want it any thinner... You could have the head resurfaced to drop the compresion, but it would be minimal. Fill me in on the logic of a thinner head gasket...

Dont fiddle around with headgaskets.. its actually the only real weakspot on our cars.

the reason why I suggested that is because I thought the compression ratio was in the 10's. My last car was a civic hatch, b18c5,t3/t4 turbo kit since the engine has a high compression ratio, I had inline pro make me a custom 3.0 m.m head gasket with I never had any problems with. the car made 327whp, 240 ft pounds of torque.

to drop the compression ratio the head gasket dosent get thinner it gets thicker. Because on the B18c5 the oem head gasket was like .50 m.m and to drop the compression ratio it became 3.0 m.m.

Correct. And on an overhead cam motor you don't go doing a whole lot either way (up or down) because it effects timing, unless you can re-time the motor with adjustable cam gears. That's why you can't go machining heads down much on OHC applications, as well.

I'm in the Marietta/Roswell area.... but I don't work for the parts store any more... I wish I still got those discounts. Norcross is not too far.
