Chrome Shift gate

I was trying to remove the shift gate to strip the paint off of it. i only got the black plastic around it off, but I couldn't figure out how the hell you pull the shift gate itself off. help is appreciated. thanx!

there's 4 tabs on the side that hold it down. put a flat edge screwdriver under one of them and slowly pry one tab at a time. you only have to do one side and then you can just pull it off the other side when the first side is free.

btw, it's a lot easier to do if you remove the entire center console. it's do-able without it, but more of a hassle.

I did this today with some advice from Kam. I banged up the chrome with the baby's car seat trying to take it out after I was done. (Getting ready for a meet tomorrow) Oh well, it was still worth it. It took all of ten minutes to do and it looks great! Thanks Kam!

i didn't like the chrome look when i did mine so i took a fine sandpaper and went over it a lot and not it has a brushed look. a little less flashy IMO.

I know! That thing has not been chromed for the 7 years I have had it and I have never had a mishap like that, and the minute I do it, it gets banged up. The RL shift gate will fit, though right? I don't think that I can let this go.
